Its sad but not surprising at all. Jagex (and a lot of companies in general) have mostly abandoned the forums for social media platforms. This is a turn of the time and I don't see that changing. Sadly, I think the forums will become more and more deserted.

Its nice to know when they were around that it was one of the largest of its kind in the world. That's impression and will always be impressive to me.

They could make an achievement diary for the forums so then the forums could no longer be dead content. That is a good enough excuse to rework the forums ( like they have done in the past for areas in the game that needed to be upgraded) ect.

Pity.. The RS forums used to be one of the largest of its kind. I'd love to see them restored to their former glory, or at least an effort be made to.

I agree. But would also add that I maybe visit these forums once a month. Maybe. And that is if I want/need something in particular.

For mine one of the biggest roadblocks on here apart from the obvious lack of functionality are the mods themselves and how they moderate and conduct themselves. It is one thing to remove posts that are abusive rants or that somehow contravene forum rules. It is another entirely to arbitrarily remove something that is not in any way either of the above.

Reddit is more popular because it is :

1. Way more functional

2. As toxic as it can be at least you can actually have a discussion/spirited exchange of views without some precious princess taking stuff down because they/their friends don't like what you say.

It's a fair bit dated since it's from JavaOne 2009 but based on how Mark Gerhard stated in 2009 that the machine that ran the forums was a:

• Java Enterprise web server
• Celeron 2.4Ghz
• 2GB RAM
• 2 IDE HDDs
• ~5 years old in 2009
• Had not been rebooted for years

If they are using a similar or the same setup I can see why they'd want to leave it as is. They wouldn't try an installation of any bulletin board because of the time to set it up, their target audience is generally on social media and the possible low-er cost to keep this up and operational versus something different. Not even when Chronicle or Transformers Universe did they use but a modified version of these forums.

Wouldn’t be surprised if things have been updated since then honestly. There were issues with the forums on threads with A LOT of posts in the past, but now they function very smoothly when it used to bog down a lot. Something has deffo been updated since then...though idk what.

TFU did, but Chronicle actually used a forum software known as Jforum. Had less features, and had to be modified to support the game. Private Messaging, user acct editing, profiles, and searching were edited out of the site...and moderation abilities were verryyyyyy limited compared to here.
Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?
