Are you fucking dumb? If you are going to go up to people having a sports discussion and tell them that sports are bad for the betterment of human kind, you can't be the one to also say "Tell me why I'm wrong and I will defend myself". It's your job as the one who sparked the debate to give examples as to why you stand where you stand. Not the other way around.

wtf dodo since when did you know how to argue

1)
Some sports idolize aggression or the chance of aggression is a large reason why players attend games. (MMA, Hockey, Rugby, Nascar)

Even sports where aggression isn't idolized have had riots over teams losing due to extremist behavior ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_riot ) (For comparison, here is the number of riots caused by scientific discovery in recent years: http://bit.ly/1kU4LSO )

2)
An average football game is televized for roughly 3 hours. The ball is actually in play for 11-13 minutes of that. You're better off watching the 8-15 minute "highlights" reel of the match.

3)
Sports are designed to be easy to follow along with and does not require much mental thought. "Keep your eyes on the ball." Although if you are putting serious thought behind your teams play I guess it could be argued you are doing strategic and critical thinking - which is a good thing. This would require more study into spectators' behavior (are they really putting effort into analyzing the game and coming up with their own plays knowing the team can't communicate with them telepathically?) --Related study about critical/strategic thinking: http://journal.frontiersin.org/Journal/10.3389/fnsys.2014.00069/full

4)
Sports are increasingly becoming televized drama about popular celebrity players. I'd rate "did so and so's wife really cheat on him! (or vice-versa) as extremely low on Global Importance level. Yet look at the Tiger Woods incident. Pathetic things like this get more news time than actual important things.

I rushed the above post a bit since it's an hour past when I should have gone to bed. I will provide more studies tomorrow - as well as more supporting evidence for my unbacked points.
