Png is completely lossless

That means that every pixel is stored exactly how it's captured (i'm actually not 100% but it's not compressed that much at least)

Jpg splits the image into 8px x 8px blocks and only stores like 5-10 of them then uses a cosine function to model the other 54-59 pixels

It also only has a color depth of 256
