I met a genuinely new player in RS3 today, they had only been playing for 3 days and were cutting maples.
I was quite shocked about how difficult low level combat appears to be. There is a lack of training spots and useful equipment at those levels, along with the lack of abilities available.
The fact that RS3 has any new players at all is a good sign though, I hope I see more of them around.
Same here
Just thought I would continue this topic.
Lower levels also have an increased difficulty too, which is being limited by abilities. I'm sure when EoC came out, we had all the abilities unlocked automatically, but gosh, who can imagine people lvling to ... lvl 50 attack with only 5 abilities and limited threshold? Just repeating what you said in more detail!
I found low levels at maple trees too about 2 months ago, same as you did. It was at Seers' village and they never saw an inferno adze before so I explained it to them
Desputy's thread had shown an increase in players over the winter break. That's probably because people are resubscribing.
i had this discussion with someone at the lumby bonfire over christmas, they told me it's easier to start playing the game now compared to 4 years ago.. something i think is ridiculous. i can't actually remember the reasons they gave me, i'm pretty sure it was aimed at the likes of faster rc through runespan and having bonfires to firemake

Have you revisited that thread recently lol? Also something are harder for low level players and some are easier. Some dg bosses for example are very tanky for low levels. But alot of quest monsters are very underpowered. The DT bosses all have 3k lp, which even at low levels is a joke.
The biggest hurdles for my low level friend appear to be difficulty understanding how the armour system works and being unable to find various features using the NIS. They had played other MMO's before so I suspect the tutorial is missing something armour related. I'm assuming momentum is superior to abilities until ~50 combat stats due to the lack of abilities available to someone with low att/str/range/magic.
They felt that range was the most difficult skill to get started with, while magic was by far the most confusing, with melee being the most straightforward combat style. The fact that they turned out Path-System off (they actually looked up how to do this) suggests something about it is off-putting or confusing. It was an insightful conversation, as Eoc/NIS will be standard for a new player, whereas all of us spent years using the old system.

The best for low levels is using the tag system and have (a) higher level friend(s) kill the monsters for them until they're high enough level to use good abilities and weapons themselves.

True story
But isn't that like saying the fastest way for a new player to level up buyables is have a rich friend give them money?
