tbh I don't think there is alot you can do except for what Spray Can said. Odds are the new crew and ship parts will require the next tier of resource that will come with the update so you can't rly get ahead of it, save the chimes though if you are low cause everything uses that.
If you're already maxed on ports and you have all scrolls etc, with no plans of doing any ports til its release, then go ahead and have all 4 ships out to collect scrolls, but do not collect when they return. Once the update hits live, re-select scroll focus to one of the new ones, then collect a full scroll from your ships. =)

Wow nice tip never knew it worked like that lol. I also wasn't aware new scrolls were coming in this batch, I remember when I read it nothing in particular interested me and new scrolls are intriguing.

Since we know there we be *at least* new ammo, a ring, and a cape, and all things that come from ports are obtained after you earn a scroll for it, it's safe to assume you'll need to complete at least 12 scroll missions for the new rewards.
