I just read about it one day, that was a pretty dumbed down explanation I gave to you in fc though. As well as not entirely correct now that I look at it..
Arcminutes are actually a unit of angular measurement but I figured you'd get it better if I used them as a unit of distance instead.

Fun fact because you mentioned space!
Arcminutes are used in declination calculations, angular diameters, as well as parallax and other cool stuff in celestial mechanics! (basically you can use them for size and distance of some stuff in space). I'd give you an example but can't input the proper symbols on forums.
