Replacements are always bad, it's no longer the same character no matter how good or bad the new actor is in their role.
They might as well kill the previous character and create a new one that takes the previous one's place or something idk
Doctor Who constantly has replacements due to the power of regeneration and does a pretty good job. Every so often, a new actor will take the role of the doctor and be different in his own special way.
Same happens with their "companions" too, at some point they die and need to be replaced by someone else.
They're not always bad.

Genius business plan to be honest, massively extended the lifespan of the show :p
