The road to 5.4 is definitely more enjoyable if you don't feel the urgency to rush it as fast as possible. It's a goal that's kept me playing for several years so far.

Due to IRL obligations, I've recently given up on my rush to front page on ironman hiscores for a handful of skills I had planned on getting to 200m. I've realized at the start of summer I just couldn't keep up with these kids 16+ hours a day.
Ever since I gave up on rushing XP and skills I've really enjoyed doing anything and everything on my ironman, and taking time to boss
"Why are you posting threads, asking questions and making discussion???"
Accidently surged up a dinosaurs ass, became stuck then activated double surge and burst out its chest alien-style!
Got his dragon mattocks then crashed the clan citadel into Anachronia wiping out the dinosaurs.

Another reason why I don't rush or heavily compete. While I do have a lot of free time currently, I still can't be bothered sitting there pulling 10+ hours without breaks. Maybe I'm bad, but I find it exhausting - I need to occasionally move around. ;c

It's not
how much time you have
, but
what you do with it
. And if you enjoy what you do with your time, it doesn't matter how little or large of it you have.
