Sonic generations sold milions and got universal praise, naw dosent get a sequel.
Sonic colors got universal praise, nah were done.
Sonic adventure 2 sold millions on both the dreamcast and gamecube, nah let that one die alone.
Sonic boom sold terribly and got hated on by everyone. WHAT ARE YOU STANDING AROUND FOR? MOVE, MOVE!

I'd guess the devs want to prove they're not the problem, so making a sequel to a failure of a game is like a second chance almost? Whereas a sequel to a success can only lead to diappointment!
