Pokemon is boring, Ash can't reach his end goal because that will end the series, which in turn will cut sales on merchandise/games. So they continue the same formula for each series resetting him back to noob status at the start...which doesn't cut it for me, which is why I'm not a fan.
I rather have a finite series with in depth plot that can climax, and then wrap up with a satisfying resolution while having character development/interactions that stick with the characters until the end.
