If I remember correctly the glowing fungus stays in the cart, so you can just pick it up from there? That's basically a majority of the quest skipped if that's the case, since you skip that entire setup of the tracks, getting there, leaving, etc.

You need to do whole ´quest´ again if you want to re obtain more salve shards as well so yeah

Yes
You need to do whole ´quest´ again if you want to re obtain more salve shards as well so yeah
