Higher ups in the military are dicks here, and as far as I know they do it because they did the same to them (or at least that's what everyone says) and not to weed out the weaker. It's not just hard work they make you do, I would be ok with that. It's unfair things like making you run for 3 hours in the middle of the night because you sneezed and disrupted the silence or making you serve for 3 more days because your clothes are dirty, which happened because they asked you to do push ups in mud earlier. I'm probably biased here because we are forced to undergo 2 years of training and receive no salary for doing so, but that doesn't make it any better.

Besides the obvious fubar economy, one of the reasons I want to leave this shithole is to escape being enslaved for 2 years of my life.

What would happen if you just left without spending time in the military?
I would imagine they couldn't do anything unless he goes back, then would be forced into it.

That's called going AWOL. That could get him court martialed for desertion and sent to prison.
I see. I thought that only happens if they were already enlisted.

I'm not sure what his exact situation is. But I'm pretty sure you enlist in the service, get a quick physical, and then, if accepted, are sent off to training. I'm not 100% sure, I weaseled my way out of military service when my dad was pushing me.

EDIT: Talking about my country's rules. Idk other militaries

I went to make food and missed like a page of posts lol, anyway..

Typically males here have to do their training once they turn 18. If they are accepted in a university and have evidence of studying, they may postpone their training for up to 8 years, and they are allowed a few more years if they go for post graduate studies.

Once that time is over, regardless of if they finished studying or not, they have to present themselves and do their training or else, similarly to if they never got it postponed, they are basically hunted down and arrested. Penalties include both prison and serving for extra time. If one stays in the country this is inevitable.

If they leave and stay elsewhere then other laws apply which make the person a resident of another country or something along those lines, and at that point they are free to visit the country but they can't stay in it for over 30 days per year, or they will be hunted down again. Training is mandatory.

Of course, there is a point after which you are considered too old to do your training. I think it's if you turn 35 or something. If you somehow have avoided being arrested, or if you still have some days left to serve (theoretically possible if you disobey a lot and get extra days, you could be stuck doing your training for a decade) when you turn 35, you have the option to pay for each day you have left (you still can't escape it lol).

I think it's around 10 euros per day, so if one stays away and returns to the country when they turn 35 they could pay something like 7300 euros and be free to do whatever again. Of course that's only necessary if they don't have permanent residence elsewhere and only plan to visit for holidays (30 days a year should be plenty for that).
Hi

I wonder if I were to join the military... what jobs they'd make me do. Do they actually send women to fight on the front line?

I mean, this is all theoretical, but I'm just wondering since I've always been curious.

I don't have the body to "fight", so what would I do? Desk job?

EDIT: Or maybe they'd reject me.

There is no such thing as enlisting here, all males have to undergo mandatory training once they turn 18. There are no exceptions unless you have a heavy disability (over 80% of your body or so). This is independent from fighting in wars and all these. Hi

Where is "here"? SORRY I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!

In the US, every male 18+ has to register in the draft. Well, basically the draft. It's only used if the military breaks down or something, idk. The actual services are still filled with volunteers (volunteering in one way or another).

181m Slayer XP and 37,963 Edimmu slain for my Dungeoneering pet. Slayer is still the worst skill in the game.

Unless you're an Amazonian, you would probably be put in a desk job or hospital or something
