Also may I remind you of a good bye thread being locked? Despite the fact that it was not spreading false information? The reason was 'it is not confirmed' and therefore 'I (the moderator) believe it should be locked to avoid causing panic' or something along those lines. The same person also locked a thread with poor grammar, deeming it troll and spam.

Everything points to personal judgement..

I think our issue is not the posts being personal. It's the posts being used as a personal message, which is against the nature of the forums.

I don't see why discussing about yourself makes it a personal message? Personal would be something that is directed at one player.

I understand that one thread is a little more 'personal' but both threads are addressed to the whole forum and all its users, and not one user. I think it's the latter 'personal' we have an issue with and not the former 'personal'.

If not, then any thread discussing personal things such as a boss drop thread, a phat lost on lure thread or even a champion scroll thread is personal, and does not belong in the forums.

The first relates more to one person's IRL condition, addressing it to everyone is relatively pointless, not to mention that it isn't related to rs. He said his condition had nothing to do with playing rs, so it would be off topic. (Idk if it was moved or locked, if that's part of your argument.) When I said personal, I was referring to the IRL aspect, not necessarily just one player that has something going on.

The second is actually appropriately directed at everyone, it's loosely tied into rs (playing it, not the actual content of rs though). I can see the grey area though. It's telling people to change their personal IRL habits. Maybe it still should have been locked. You're right, it does come down to an individual's judgement.

It think it does come to a point where it isn't about the person posting what happens, but the actual topic. If rs-related content can be discussed from the OP, I see no reason for a lock. A drop thread has avenues of discussion such as the monster, the item, the rarity etc., but there isn't much to say about health that doesn't veer off topic.

Kind of reminds me of the thread I made a few weeks ago telling people to have fun with div and not get carried away with negativity/health. I recall you saying it was inspirational. :P But if we follow this logic, it would off-topic too. Hard to draw lines in some cases...

As for the goodbye thread, I agree it could have stayed open. Would have been nice if (wishful thinking) it was highlighted and a J Mod could have confirmed what was happening.

The poor grammar one... runeguy's rune sq shield thread? That wasn't going to go anywhere lol.

Those threads are all inspirational to me. Including the hospital one. I was planning to sleep yesterday and I set an alarm for a couple hours later, but I decided against it and slept as much as I could. Had it not been for that thread I'd probably get up after 4 or 5 hours, as that would have been enough for me. The thread was about real life, but it also was about the game and anything real life mentioned was directly related to the game.

I suppose the reason it was locked was because it was believed the thread would end badly, with users flaming spamming personally attacking and such. The same can be said about the square shields.

In all honesty, I don't think that's how it should be. High levels of prevention are bad. It's like walking into a store and being arrested because you could have been a thief. Or I dunno.. something like that. At least that's how it feels for me.
