Hmm a short poll - I'm not sure I entirely agree with the exact choice of questions from OpenStok but I do agree it was an opportunity for some more detailed feedback.

Regarding my opinions on the poll subject itself. I'm not sure I particularly see the point of a very short timer myself, although obviously you can't take it to an extreeme. For the people voting for a short period I'd be interested to hear why? Is it update spam? Effects on the GE?

Personally, I normally just check the update, see whether it affects my game-plan specifically, read through all the specifics (so many people don't bother so it's nice to be able to help answers questions based on the KB etc.) and then return to playing right up until kick-out.

I do have one amusing experience with the timer though. I was doing a small dungeon and the twenty minute timer came up. I thought, well I can't get much done by leaving it, lets race through as fast as possible. :P I get all the way to the boss room and meet a new boss! :O Check strategy with friends and chase after the Plane Freeezer, skidding on the ice as I go. ^_^ Many hate the timer during Dungeoneering, but the suspense of whether I'd make it made it by far the most fun I've had Dungeoneering :)

I personally think that the second question of the 'Tick, tock, tick tock...' poll should have been multiple choice. (And reworded to suit the fact that it's multiple choice.)

Why?

Because when I see an update timer, I instantly do several things. And what follows next is quite dynamic based on the nature of the update.

If I had the option, I would have selected 6 of the 11 options.

Same, I just choose what fit me best which is finishing up quickly. I also will go to the KB, homepage, and forums at the same time, so lots of options fit me.

A another great poll, especially about the update timer. I personally said 11-15 min because it could still be short, but gives enough time to let people finish some longer events such as a dungeon or minigame round.

Can't wait for next week! :)

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback so far! :)

Nexus and myself kept this poll short and sweet (a bit like him?) as we really just wanted to stay focused on the update timer. The second question was mostly out of pure nosiness! :P

If I'm at home (very rare on an update day!), I leg it into the kitchen to grab a drink and hurry back to refresh the page. Oh, and I quickly let the dogs out!

Like Elrond, I would be interested to know people's reasoning behind voting for the shorter countdowns.

Hmm the second question could have been better off as a multiple choice to be honest - I do several of those things. :p

Also there was no option for check the recent updates forum to see what the update is - it is usually posted on there before the homepage.

As for the timer question, I personally put 16-20 minutes. A 20 minute timer is long enough for you to finish a game of castlewars/soul wars/stealing creation/mobilising armies etc. and will usually be enough to finish a dungeoneering floor unless you've just started. Yet it doesnt start the countdown ridiculously early that way.

I'd want a longer timer, so that it's not, "Oh come on this'll take around that time!!"

For second question I find out what it is from other nearby people, wishing i could find a way to perma-mute fools who think Sailing is coming out. (It will never come out, it would be totally useless, and they just want to be time-wasting...[strange, this part was left blank...])
Depending on what the update actually is I may or may not try it out soon.

Also I noticed something odd, I hope it isn't just me. The "red button" has to deal with a timer, as stated in the little info about the poll. But in Elemental Workshop 3, the "Big Red Button" is connected to a machine with a timer of it. This can't be just a coincidence...

I think it will be a lot better if the countdown was changed to 20-30 minutes in case you've only recently begun an activity which takes a fixed amount of time (eg. Soul wars, Castle wars, Stealing Creation).

my awnser:
ha, I let out the dogs to if it's depending on the time of the update,
most system updates I do!

and yes, shoter countdowns?
i don't like that idea, it's than to fast and people can't do anything in short times like.. 1 minute.. and we need to hesitate!

In example:
system update 60-59.. and so on

in that time I can scratch myself and than

OpEenSt0k has logged out.

that doens't seems much likeley towards me,
well everyone, your feedback is good as emilee said.

regads, OpEenSt0k
