I've played RuneScape for ages now--I started in December of 2003, I believe--, and I must say that I've always enjoyed the polls. Whenever I feel somewhat lackluster about current content or my sloth-like skill progression, I find some relief in the polls, for they tell me that Jagex cares about the RuneScape community. I never thought about commenting on the polls until I saw the QFC in the "What's the Motivation?" poll.
In regard to said poll, I found it varied enough to support the dynamic play styles I've encountered and utilized, as well as the key reasons I keep cutting my hiati short: lore, skill progression, and frequent updates.
Thank you, Jagex.

I have played Runescape since January of 2004, and have played the game on and off over the years. I usually vote in a poll when I see a new one. I think there should be more skills feedback polls. With questions along the lines of "Which skill do you think most desperately needs to be updated", or "Which skill do you enjoy levelling up the most/least".

My motiviation to come back and play runescape? Definately the quests. I'm looking for that sense of adventure, and that's what they do for me. I want more quests released, and more often. "To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities." -Bruce Lee

I've been playing RuneScape since New Years Day 2003 (seven and a half years). My son introduced me to the game, and my main motivation at that time was to have an activity in common with him. Needless to say, I got hooked very quickly, and even though my son rarely plays anymore, I'm still enjoying RuneScape. I was fortunate to meet some very helpful and generous players when I was starting out, and I try to be helpful to to others whenever I can. My in-game motto is "No hurries, no worries".
As for my current motivation... well, I love the variety of things to do, the interaction with other players, the simplicity of the controls, the unexpected cleverness when I "examine" an object or "talk to" an npc, and the fact that the powers-that-be at Jagex seem to pay attention to player feedback, even though it may take a while to implement changes.
