Hey all,

As we mentioned on the live stream last Tuesday we want to discuss your questions around monetisation within RuneScape - and we would like your input.

We'll source questions from this forum thread, emailed to [email protected], and a Reddit thread - we'll also do our best to gather your thoughts from over the past few weeks, too.

If you have any questions please put them down below. We'll aim to discuss as many as we can in the hour. We'd prefer open questions that invite discussion, if possible.

Our current plan will be to produce an accompanying FAQ with some of the questions discussed, at a later date.

We'll see you on Tuesday!

Interesting - thanks for the information.

My question is a little random. When the Bjorn pet was released, we were told that bears in-game would be graphically updated alongside this. Unfortunately, this has not occured. Do you have a timeframe for this and can you ensure that certain new pets can serve as a basis for graphically enhancing older game models?

1) Mtx have probably damaged the game irreparably. Cosmetics and overrides from SGS have devalued cosmetics earnt from in-game content, and the massive influx of gold and XP has resulted in existing content being played less and newer content having ridiculously overpowered rates in order to be able to contend with mtx. How has this gone on for so long?

2) In, say, 2008-2011, we had no mtx but easily got over 10 quests per year, new minigames and D&Ds, new skill and combat updates, refurbishes of old content, holiday events (and not "grind 20,000 tokens in one week for a cape&quot ;) and overall a more balanced array of weekly content with at most one no-update week a month (rather than ten in a row as we just had). Mtx was supposed to generate more income to get more and better updates. This has undeniably not happened. So what's the point of mtx? Can't you go back to whatever the business plan was ten years ago? It clearly worked.

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

I personally don't mind the MTX, unlike for most others. I understand that you need to do certain things to continue to make money. You can try to appease all the crybabies who don't like MTX and make some kind of toggle option for them for certain things, idk. I know you have to try and please everyone.
Anyway, I wanted to know about DXP events. Are we still going to get them? Tbh, that's all I really care about. We were supposed to have one in September but didn't.

Just saw the month ahead and see that we're getting a DXP this month. Anyway, thank you for doing this!

Only got one question: Mod Warden claimed that MTX is necessary for Runescape to survive, but where's his proof to support his claim?

One way to support said claim would be to show some numbers: revenue numbers broken down for each revenue stream + total, operating costs and other expenses etc. But simply saying "it's necessary" and expecting people to trust your word means nothing, since you guys have lied to us many times before, especially with stuff like this where real money is involved.

Interesting... thanks for the information, Poerkie. :)

Just curious, right now promotions are run every week, and sometimes more than one a week. We used to only get one new promotion per fortnight or month - are there any possibilities of this happening again? Maybe an option to have a TH week where there's a promotion, and then the rest of the month it's nothing.

Here is the 1 question many people really want the answer to but we beat around the bush, as does Jagex.

HOW MUCH MONEY IS BEING TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME?

We are here because we care about the game & it's future.
This game has a huge time investment for players.
What we want answered is is the money being re-invested into the game.
If the money is being re-invested into the game, you can have all our money.
If it is being taken out, you are stealing time from us, which is even more valuable than money.

If everything goes pear shaped, Jagex and the investors cut & run, the effect on the parties is disproportionate.
Investors get money, Jagex employees get paid, they gain experience, they have something to add to their resume.

RUNESCAPE PLAYERS ARE LEFT WITH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SHOW FOR ALL THAT TIME INVESTED.

Now I don't want you to use the above scenarios to deflect, to re-assure, and this is mainly to you MOD WARDEN. I don't want you to use anything to divert from the question posed, in capitals, underlined, in bold at the top of this post.

Because THAT is the information that we NEED in order to make the best decision regarding if you are worthy of our investment.

Your claims about transparency - it's pretty simple.
Do you care about us enough to want to allow us to make informed decisions about our investment in Jagex? Or are you going to be the same as those before you.

Why are we transparent about everything except money?
If almost everything is being re-invested into the game, that's a good thing, give us the figures.
If so much is being taken out that "We don't want to talk about it", "That's private", "It's confidential", that's a concern.

We don't want to talk about it is not transparent.
That's private is not transparent.
It's confidential is not transparent.

Be very specific in your response to this.
Not general, vague or ambiguous.
Because as you've been told a million times now.........

WE'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE.
YOU WIN OR YOU LEARN

how much money from mtx is being invested back into the game?

is mtx worth the constant backlash from the community?

will torva and pernix armor be released on TH?

why can't we get more Solomon's store outfits?

why did Jagex lie to parliament?

will treasure hunter ever be replaced with something that doesn't feel like gambling?

do the jmods that produce mtx promos care if they ruin the game?
WAAAGH!!!
