Hey everyone!

So recently I've been speaking to Mod Kelvin and Mod Niku about ways to help get SupportScape (a peer to peer discord server which acts as a safe space for RS players to talk about their worries) known to other players. They're completely on board with our mission!

What was suggested, was to do an 'Ask Me Anything' session during Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) which is this week! This session is planned Thursday 10th October (tomorrow) between 17:00 and 18:00 (game time) so if you post then here in advance, it'd be very helpful and much appreciated. :)

If you have any questions regarding how Jagex deals with mental health, combatting toxicity, experiencing negativity within the game and how they can help players regarding all this, please post here.

So, let's grab a comfy seat, get the kettle on and #letstalkaboutit! :D

Hi Nick! If you feel this is where it should be then that's fine. Thank you for letting me know, and for moving it to the correct place. Hopefully, it gets some good questions in before tomorrow! :)

Ok, so my question is regarding addictive behaviours and how Jagex could possibly help reduce this. It's partially about MTX but on the whole, it's about spending/overspending irl and generation of in-game money.

We've all had times where we've gone a little bit crazy spending money on overrides, bonds, and keys, right? Is there a way Jagex can put caps/limits on how much an account can spend on a daily/weekly/monthly basis? I heard someone spend 62k on keys at one point! I know it's up to the customer to make those choices, and some bank apps allow you to control what your card is being used for (mine can block gambling/online payments), but can Jagex give a gentle nudge before people go crazy?

Overspending can lead to many, many problems. Debt is a big one. This can build up over time and ultimately cause someone to become anxious and depressed especially if there are bills that need paying while someone is stuck in a vicious addictive cycle.

There's also the place known as the 'sand casino', the duel arena. It's a good way to chance your luck but for some people, it's all they do instead of playing the game and enjoying it. I know some people have put EVERYTHING they have and lost it ALL and quit because they didn't have the motivation to earn it back. I understand that this is technically their own fault, but again, it could be helped if there were measures in place to limit specific areas where people tend to go a little overboard.

There's that, and how can mental health advocates such as ourselves be more involved to help the community? :)

I know you may not be able to answer, and my question may seem a little silly but if you could, I'd really appreciate it. And if there's a way that something could be done - even better! :)

People use games to escape reality, however some people use it to unhealthy extremes. How can we possibly help with both sides?
It’s good that a game can help with depression but sitting at a computer all day doesn't necessarily help in long term.

Quote from another member.

"Those bots are affecting players in OSRS GE too. They're everywhere, and they're not just promoting gambling, they're botting and scamming. The bots say the player has 45% win rate, but the real chance is 25%, and it goes to 0% the more the player bets. Many players don't know that though, and these bots are just taking money. Is there a way to stop these gambling bots? Is there a way for the game to stop them?

My idea is, I remember when trade limit was implemented. That would stop these bots now. But then we also need to deal with the actual players affected, so I'm thinking. What if new accounts get a trade limit until they reach a certain quest points, or are friends for a week or so? These changes would stop throwaway accounts made just to bot and scam, while actual players won't be as affected.

That's my input in stopping gambling addictions and also protect players from getting scammed.
How about players who play way too much. I know it's the players' responsibility to manage their time properly, but we should still be able to help them. I know some MMOs have the stamina system that runs out as players play, and they gain no xp once stamina runs out. That would solve this addiction, but it can also negatively affect players, nobody wants to be dictated how they play. A video I watched say instead of penalizing players for playing too much, try rewarding players who get off time to time. Do you think it's possible to allow players to store bonus xp, to a cap, on a selected skill (chosen next log in? maybe once a day?) while they're offline?"

I've got a few questions I'd like to drop here,

What schemes are currently in place at Jagex in terms of Mental Health support?

Why is Mental Health something that's considered important to support in Jagex's viewpoint?

Is there a way I, as an advocate of Mental Health support can get involved on a more 'official' basis?
