First of all; the majority of the players I see completely against this, are the players that have started since the updates or around the updates. In essence, these players have been cradled with the GE and new wildy and have NO idea as to how it was 6+ years ago.
I say this much though - Update SOME worlds with this and leave a few how it is now; even go so far as to separate the two, as you did with runescape classic and runescape 2.
I've quit this game for the past 2 years, however this may just tempt me to come back. Trecking through the wilderness in constant worry of getting jumped by some level 126 or some pking clan was one of the most-fun aspects of the game.
The complainers were the ones that were ignorant enough to walk into the wilderness unprepared. That's why you, Jagex, created the wilderness ditch.
As for free trade, I say it should be reinstated, however keep the GE to be used as a price reference. Players will generally still sell items in that price range. If somebody sells a very expensive item for much more than it's worth and somebody is stupid enough to pay that price it's on them. Sorry - should've checked the prices. I got scammed numerous times before I finally figured out to be smart. Do like the olden days and LEARN and not be babied.
However, that said, these updates will be a tremendous hit to the new players that aren't used to NOT being babied. I suggest it not be such a violent transition. Slowly transform it into the old ways as easily as you, Jagex, can. If you do this I suggest hiring a team that works SPECIFICALLY for player reports. Instating this, there will be a LOT of reports for botters. I suggest impleminting a system to allow for videos as proof of botting. Yes, steal a little bit from Nexon. It's okay. Their system works, so that's all that matters.
In my final words I say, this is a crazy change and it makes me very happy. I vote yes! However, the transition into it, won't be easy and must be taken with light steps
