Jagex is incapable of handling even the amount of bots we have today, how could you possibly imagine them getting the huge influx of bots that would undoubtedly flood the game if free trade were ever to be brought back? If I had kept a list of all the obvious bots that I've ever reported up to now, and if I checked the hiscores I would probably find that a large amount of them are still there, and have probably voted to bring back free trade.
That said, would I have wanted free trade back? Yes, but, and this is important, Jagex can't handle the bots.
This is even before you look at the fact that this voting system is incredibly flawed. They (Jagex) say that there are restrictions in place, however there is no indication of what restrictions those are. Judging by the number of votes already, and how many players are active, it's clear to me that those restrictions are insufficient.
There are a number of concerns that are still unaccounted for:
1. There is no "vote no" button. You can't take silence as "no" as there are people who don't even know about the vote, for instance so they can't give their votes and not only that, but there are people who made the mistake of not reading the page fully before "casting their vote". I'm not one of them, but there are people who were expecting, among other things, that there would be a login prompt and a choice between yes and no. The least they could do is at least put "Vote yes" on the button, instead of "Vote now".
2. No login required. How many people have just gone to a random part of the hiscores and started inputting usernames to artificially increase votes? I hear that a bot has even been created to do this very thing.
3. Apparently you can vote multiple times with the same name according to some people.

Until these issues are resolved and the vote is reset, it is an egregious example of Jagex's poor planning, implementation, and falling back on previous decisions.
Though I hate copypasta, this needs to be seen.

That's exactly what I'm trying to tell everyone.
EDIT: This update is bound to happen, JaGeX already has it planned. The community size may double in the next year if they do bring this update back. I used to see 300k-500k people playing at peak times, after the wildy removal, it dropped to half (150k-250k)

Hi, i played runescape from 2005 until 2007, but when they removed the old wildy and trade limit it was like most the fun was lost
i used to love earning money on my main and then pking with it on my pure, it was such a thrill, being in small groups of 2 or 3 against others in the wildy
i remembered when defil3d (the person with 99 def at 48 combat) was in the wildy, me and a few mates couldnt kill her, but it was so much fun
we had an ancient and some rangers, and a few melees, i was there for hours, dieing and losing only 50-100k, not much
but now when i pk, its just junk. lots of little priced items
back then it was fun, you kill them and you get stuff you actually need, like a dds, dscim, that you can use yourself incase u die and lose yours
the trade limit is good/bad
i would love for it to be removed, it was a good update so people didnt get scammed but if you do remove it you could put a price guide on, so if you price check it or trade or put in ah, it would give you a rough idea on what the price is, so you wont get scammed and allowing people to trade however much they want.
Revs are annoying, if i went into a wildy to do an agility course and i met one, i'd be annoyed, but if a pker was there i'd be like :D some fun, ill kill him :) , it was fun with the old wildy
Especially pking at level 3+ to level up, its not boring, and you leveled up fast, i just love old wildy so much, and im going to pk all day everyday for weeks if you do bring it back
and im sure that alot alot alot of old players will come back purely for the wilderness
In the varrock wildy its all empty now when there only a few pk worlds, back then everyworld had loads in each world, it was definatly the most fun thing in my opinion, especially when its you and a few inreal life mates
make a good set-up :D , a ancient mage, a darkbow and someone with claws, and BOOM, or 3 g-mauls, or anything really, seriously fun i cannot wait till 14th jan to see results.

Reading some of the comments, i can't help but to see the impact that the new way of Rs (no old wildy and limited trade) has impacted people.
As i recall on the day that these two were removed from the game in 2007 (and weeks and months after that), everyone was outraged, many of my friends even quit saying, that was the day Rs died for them. A little drastic sure, but they have their own opinions and perhaps Pking was their favorite thing to do.
What am i trying to get at here?... well personally i would like the old way of playing back. i had a lot of fun playing in the old wilderness and pking (or getting pk'd) and free trade was great. and although Ive gotten used to and learned to accept the new style of Rs, i too, like many of the older players who have had the privilege of experiencing the old Rs remind ourselves of the "good ol' days".
I noticed something here. (besides the fact that there is no "no" option. yes we all know it was meant for the people who want old Rs back. don't want it? don't vote.)i noticed that players views are changing. they don't want bots overtaking us and messing up the game. neither do i, but i still see them. I do take action when i see botters, and i always will. but in my opinion botters are gonna be here with or without the wilderness and free trade. they will always try to find another way around the system. so it is our (the players as well as the Jagex team) responsibility to step up and create a barrier against them. if we do our part to spot and report botters, Jagex will do theirs and ban them as well as the source.
Although many got used to the new Rs. there is no doubt in my mind that the old Rs had more freedom. lets face it, the wilderness was one of the greatest things in game at the time. yet will learned to live without it and kept it as a dream in out distant memories.

So, first of all I think they should bring back the wilderness and have free trade. Most of the people who don't want wilderness never even played when they had it so like wtf. Wilderness was the bomb man. It gave the game something to be afraid of yet somewhere to go to kill people and get good stuff. And then I want free trade even more. I dont know about you, but I am one of the few runescape players who gives away my money to noobs. Ever since the trade limit I havnt been able to do that. I love giving away my gold. It helps out the new players of runescape and makes me fool GOOD. It is not like a high level has any use of 1m gold which i can make in an hour. All the people saying it will ruin runescape are the people who are stupid or don't know what they are talking about. The only way to get scammed in this game is if you are well, stupid enough to get scammed. Just face the facts haters. This change will be AWESOME.

I enjoy skilling more than killing. You are not asking Jagex to give skillers the option to pk in the wilderness (we can pk all we want on the PVP worlds). You are demanding that they force us to put up with PKing while we are trying to have other fun.
Do you really think that PKing in the wilderness is going to be any better than PKing on the PVP worlds? Nobody is going to carry expensive items to the wilderness if this reversion happens. Most of the pre-2007 players I know say that they will just avoid the wilderness all together.
