1. Jagex are one of the richest businesses in the UK. What won't they do for money? If they weren't going to make a profit off this update, they wouldn't be announcing it.
2. Jagex is winning their war against bots. "We’ve been shutting down bot-makers all around the world and prosecuting people for stealing accounts, and we’ve evolved our systems to quickly detect cheating". Seeing all the stat resets and bans going on recently, the anti-bot system has grown in strength significantly. In addition, they have been taking legal action against bot-related sites. For example, the infamous RSBots is now controlled by Jagex with the site reading "Jagex will take steps to defend its intellectual property and other legal rights. The activities previously offered by this website were against the law." They obviously know what they're doing.
3. "we will have to accept that we will never completely eradicate cheating so long as there is an incentive and method to do so". We, us players, have always known that RWT is not abolishable, no matter what and they've accepted the same idea as well.
4. "I regularly hear from both the community and the Jagex team that we should reintroduce free trade and the excitement of the old Wilderness" - their team wants to do it and so do players. How could they lie about that? It's completely possible for some or many of the Jagex team members to have suggested reintroducing this update! There have definitely been ongoing arguments over the past three years because some team members believe it's a profit-maker and some believe it isn't. They posted a news article and put up a petition clearly because they came to an agreement!
5. You say it's for a Guinness world record? Well, while breaking a world record by getting a massive amount of votes, they could very well be going forth with the update at the same time. Who says that's not a possibility? That would give them a place in a world record AND profit from returning players. Double win
