There were two votes, an initial vote later renamed a "petition" that started on December 21st where one could only vote "yes," (but on the plus side you could vote "yes" for whomever you wanted as many times as you cared to...).
Then starting around December 24th there was a "phase 2" vote where you could vote either "yes" or "no" for which you had to log in, so you could only vote all the accounts you currently had or could create.

Please come stand with me at the fishing guild and we can discuss the bot count with all the folks there, that is if you can get more than 2 folks out of the 40 or so to reply.
Also will you explain to me why a person intending to bot would vote no?

Also, would you please define a "legit yes vote" for me?
If Jagex has accepted that botting is now part of the game and isn't planning on doing anything about it due to the financial loss of banning all those botting accounts, then does a botting account not become a legit account?
I'm quite certain the player count has increased significantly with the return of free trade. Just as I said on the previous page, come to any resource gathering location, they are all right there in plain view.
Just don't be disappointed if you can't get any of them to talk to you.

"If you think the yes votes were botted, then I think the no votes were botted too."
I see. Well, since neither of us has direct access to the evidence or a means of proving it for ourselves, if you think the earth revolves around the sun, I think the sun revolves around the earth. There, since I've said it, our two positions are equally valid.

"The runescape player count has gone way up since the votes."
That was another common reason given by supporters in the voting debate. (About the only claim they made that they were right about, really. Not that opponents very frequently disputed the claim.)
Frankly, I just don't see why it's such a great thing anyway.
Yeah, it presumably means more revenue for Jagex. So I assume that means either more updates or better tested updates. I don't really need more content than we're currently getting; I'd rather they re-prioritize the new revenue towards less buggy (better tested) updates and/or increased enforcement of rules (e.g. botters, scammers, hackers, offensive names and speech, etc.)
So that's the upside.
The downside is more lag, more full worlds, more competition for resources, greater numbers of people trying to kill you in the wild, etc.
TBH, I'd prefer the fewer people side of the equation myself....

After 17 million woodcut xp and never a moment at the ivy, I finally have to give up on woodcutting.
I just spent 30 minutes at the mage trees and managed to get 15 logs. More folks there than I have ever seen, trees dropping faster than ever, and not a single one responding to any communication.
What a lonely place Jagex has created.
