Dear runescaspe users
I don’t know how many of you remember 2007 that well but back then Runescape was over-run with bots and RWT this is a fact so Jagex decided that the fastest way to kill half of these was to get rid of wilderness, free trade and staking in the duel arena this was a very unpopular decision and lost Jagex a lot of players
But despite people threatening to leave Jagex stated that regardless of how much opposition there was they would not be reintroducing the wilderness or free trade.
I respect Jagex for this because instead of seeing the small picture and worrying about the people that might leave and the lost revenue, Jagex could see the big picture and believed this was for the good of the community and was well worth the risk.
Now Getting rid of the wilderness and free trade required several updates including the Grand Exchange which was realised on the 26 November 2007 and revolutionised the way trade worked.
Instead of standing around for hours typing offers/ hoping someone would trade with them people could now teleport to Varrock and walk to the grand exchange and place an offer knowing that they would be added to a list and receive there items as soon as enough sellers were found.
This made selling and buying items a lot faster and let people spend more time doing the thing’s they loved.
Between 2007 and the modern day Jagex have also realised many activities where people can attack one another such as
Bounty Hunter, Castle Wars , Duel Arena, a player-owned house's combat ring or Dungeon, Stealing Creation, a PvP World or Bounty World, Soul Wars, Clan Wars, Fist of Guthix, and the TzHaar Fight Pits.
Which should give anyone enough playing killing options and helped to earn back some of the people they lost In the past.
