Seeing as I was the one who decided not to change the title, I'll clarify my position.
The title does not need to be changed. The padlock is enough for forumer users, whether they are old or new, to see that the thread is no longer in use without getting confused. If they try to post on that thread, they won't be able to as there will be no reply box to do so in.
Your new thread will appear on your forum profile without a padlock and this is enough to for your clan members to see which is the active thread.
Forums across the web, not only RuneScape, use the padlock icon to show when a thread has been closed and no longer in use. Your case does not need a title change.
I hope this clears up some of your points.
