Several people on the forums have already created written guides for things like this that have taken a while to do... I'm assuming once a video is made and chosen, those written guides by people will be come useless...?
Kind of annoying a lot of the work people do on the forums goes unnoticed or ignored, while the team at Jagex are trying to promote other ways to show the same content other players have done, without even rewarding them.
I disagree that written guides on the forums would become useless as a result of videos guides to the forums being made. Imo, written and video guides are just alternative ways for players to find out information about how things work in RuneScape and it depends on a player's needs and preferences as to which they consult and how they use them.
The same happens with 99 guides, quest guides and all sorts of other RuneScape guides. You'll find plenty of these guides in written format in places such as the RSOF Guides forum and fansites and alternatively, many video guides on YouTube and other sites.
What a player will use is up to their preference. An advantage of written guides is that there is more of an allowance for them to be lengthier and include extra details that you may not find in a video which a guide maker may want to keep short and concise in order to keep the players' attention. You can also use manual C*rl + F functions to find more specific details and key words if you're looking for specific things in particular in text guides.
Guides (whether written or in video format) are and should always remain made specifically for the community imo. It should not matter if Jagex does not recognise a guide as they are not really the target audiences for guides: it's the players who are. I can see
how
a player could feel disappointed if they put lots of effort into making a guide for it to not be recognised by Jagex, but imho it should not matter whatsoever as like I said before, it should be the players and the players alone who are the target of a guide creator's guide and not at all Jagex.
This competition just happens to be one that Jagex has made based on the forums. Competitions have been made for other kinds of guides in the past if I remember correctly for things like wilderness and Combat. This is the first I've ever heard of a forum based one and I think anyone interested in guide making, whether that be written or video, should just try it out. You could be surprised how much you could do and also develop skills in other areas in the process...
Remember that many written guides in the past have not received formal recognition by Jagex when related video competitions have been held. This does not matter one bit for creators imo for reasons I have already mentioned, although it does raise the idea of whether or not it would be nice for Jagex to recognise all kinds of written forums threads again like they did in the past like hot topics.
I know some fansite guides and forum threads have been recognised in Community Chronicles. Being rewarded for this should not really happen unless a competition was specifically made for this imo. This You could suggest opening both text-based and video-based guide competitions for the future if you like in a feedback forum...
All in all I'd say not to feel too disheartened by things like this. The praise received from fellow players who have and continue to find use in your own and other players' text guides should be a great feeling. I'm sure Jagex recognise many of these types of things internally when they come across things like this on all types of community platforms. I've seen quite a few threads by you and I can say they're really great!
I have a Forum thread explaining everything about the Quick-Find-Codes and how to use them, i'm giving approval to anyone that would like to use it in their video.. myself.. i'm not really any good when it comes to video making, have fun

^this.
Not really. A lot of people, including myself, prefer written instructions, as opposed to video instructions. I would read a written guide before I would watch a video guide.
