Exactly how would a double xp break the economy? lmao
People will star dumping huge amounts of cash into the Ge for items that you get your skills up with. For example, double herblore exp : people will prep by buying a lot of herbs\supplies.
Charity = Yes! But double xp weekend will ruin people that worked hard for levels. Double drops is what I will be voting on. It is easy to gain xp at this time anyway with all World Events and so on. To gain 2mil xp a day it is not a challange, with double xp weekend... it just creates max people to be nothing speacial.
Reading through the comments for this thread really shows the diverse player-base RuneScape possesses. It is
just
silly how many people think they understand the game's economy yet only grasp part of it...
...but dammit I'm proud to be a part of such a positive gaming community, as when you give us the chance to give like this, I think we do fantastic.
I'm also proud to support such an, and I don't say this lightly, excellently brilliant company. I gladly pay for my membership, gladly enjoy Soloman's store with RuneCoins, and will gladly give in-game wealth which took time and/or effort to acquire to support these good causes.
You guys have done right by me, the constant outreaches to the community for their insight and involvement, the excitement and passion you pour into development, the transparency you have in that development, and this incredible streak of generosity.
Keep it up Jagex, J-mods, my community. I will definitely be seeing you that weekend.

So, have you not played during a double xp weekend or a double drop weekend? You don't have to be an economist to see how terrible these are for the game's economy.
For weeks prior to the double xp weekends, prices on normal, necessary skilling items (particularly things like herblore supplies, planks, etc.) all skyrocket in price. This means that, for the most part, expensive skills cannot be trained between the time the event is announced, and the time the actual event is released - it would be stupid for a player to pay 150% or more for the same xp they would have received previously.
Then, you get to the days right before and during the event, where all these stockpiled items are suddenly dropped into the game. This begins a massive downfall in prices, which lasts long after the event itself. At the same time, after the event is over, all the produced items (potions, summoning pouches, etc.) are suddenly dropped into the GE as well, causing many of these items to plummet in price. It takes weeks, if not months, for things to stabilize again.
Double Drop Weekends have similar adverse effects on the game's market - both prior to, and after the event, prices of many top tier weapons will drop considerably. This creates speculation as well as panic, resulting in prices dropping disproportionately to the number of actually extra items that have entered the game.
The only "silly" think I see is your dismissive comment when this game's very history shows these weekends create massive economic issues. The economic effects of Bonus/Double Drop weekends are far reaching, well documented, and obvious to anyone who has played the game in the past.
Meh, the game's economy will be fine, it will stabilize just as it has done every time in the past. If they bring that well, the potential exists for a lot of the extra created resources may be removed from the game instead of crashing some items... I may donate this time, depending on what charities are part of it.

Discussing this in clan chat, we observed that : double xp is not a benefit for max and comp cape owners, but double drops are not a benefit to low levels and pures who cannot boss. So the vote is divisive to the community.
Suggestion: When you first log in on bonus/charity weekend you select either double drops or double xp. That choice stays with you all weekend - seems fairer as all types of players - skillers and killers can benefit.
