Winner design is quite good, I'm quite sure it won because it's easy and not complicated and also has easy access to chats, which new players use quite alot to get to know how the game works etc..
Although the second one looks really bad imo :L

Thank you very much! I hope that some of you will like my layout, it will be available as a preset under the name Social. Here's the reasoning behind the design that I sent along with my entry:
Original message details are unavailable.
I like all windows to be in the corners of my screen so they don't distract while playing. A window shouldn't have too many tabs, because it would be harder to find what you're looking for.
The left side is all reserved for chatting. This allows me to easily follow up to four conversations at once. From top to bottom I have private chat, friends chat, clan chat and public chat with all related tabs.
The right side is reserved for gaming aid. It's divided in three parts: the top has the minimap and helps me where I should go, the middle has my tasks and notes to remind me what I should do next and the right bottom corner is reserved for the most important tabs such as inventory, equipment, skills and prayers to give me the needs to accomplish my goals.
I placed the menu bar and the ability bar on the top and bottom centre of the screen, because they don't require much space and they should be easily accessible.
I'd love to see more entries, just like the recent music and journey competitions featured a few entries. I hope Jagex could share a few on the official Facebook and YouTube channels.
As someone who really enjoys RS most when sharing it with friends, I have to disagree with the negative comments here and say that I love the winning layout. I am always chatting with
at least
my clan and also friends on private- so I often have to turn off public chat in busy places like the GE or else I can't follow anything being said. Splitting up the chats was something I planned on doing and this looks like a great way to organize it. I can't wait for the new interface system to be released! Congrats TechEngineer!
Neither setup is personally best for me, they both seem a little too square. The winning design doesn't have enough of the actual playing area exposed to observe the beautiful graphics we are getting.
The second place would be more functional for me, but i still find it a little clumped together, although the wideness of the play screen is a major plus.

Not everyone plays full screen so both set ups are useless. Was expecting to see more friendly interfaces. Oh well.
I think the idea with the new interface is that you get more out of it in full screen, perhaps they were trying to highlight this point by providing two setups as first and second that show full screen.
Congratulations again, we will perhaps see more layouts emerging when it all goes live and the vidoes start coming online. I think that another point to this system is learning from other players layouts and adapting our own when we see something we like.
