I think Youtube doesn't like .avi very much, I have tried it a long ago and it takes ages to upload it there, and sometimes it just doesn't upload it.
The best option is .wmv, what editing program are you using? because you can set diferent quality options for this format in few programs.

It really depends on what computer do you have, so I sugest you to try diferent programs and see with which one you get the best quality.
As HOUSE TK said you can try Fraps, many people is happy with it and I did my rs machinima entry with it. Works pretty good.
Also, you try to film in Standart detail or High detail?

i tried filming in standard,high, and safe detail... i have a really good computer but java it eating my ram like a turmite that eats computers... i found that the smaller the recording area the beter detaild it is.
and what website do you get the other recording programs from?

Fraps doesn't work with RS. This is because Fraps uses programs that is directly linked with what your computer runs. RS is ran through a java script which Fraps isn't able to detect.
Camstudio and Hypercam are decent free recording programs. These don't record audio-out though, its only imaging.

Strange that you say that...I wonder what Fraps version you're using, because I've filmed in fraps and it worked...(regardless, I don't recommend using it anyway as it's a poor program for other reasons).
Camstudio is the best free program to use, so long as you master the codecs which still frustrate me. The best one money can buy though, is definitely Camtasia.

I agree, Fraps isn't so easy to use. It doesn't even work with RS. Plus, it's kind of confusing..
Camistia is not free, you have to pay for it.
Hypercam is annoying with that little sign saying "Unregistered Hypercam 2" in the corner.

Oh my gosh! I am so excited for the machinima finalist update!
You think its tomorrow? Or will it end up being a Wednesday update? Because we might have a Q/A Update on Wednesday (Not sure if one is scheduled this week). So perhaps release it along with the Q/A or alone on Tuesday.
Either way I am psyched! I submitted a video and of course I am extremely excited to see if I even place. Knowing myself most likely not, cause there are some amazing videos. But I reallly wana see what wins!
Gah, Jagex you got me involved in machinima :( Last contest I was not so anxious cause I did not enter. Now im sooo anxious!
