How the heck did you come across Sony Vegas being $500+?
Over here in the UK they are selling Sony Vegas Platinum edition 8.0 - has all the stuff you need and more for a few asvanced effects etc, for only £75.
I believe there's a v9.0 out now, I'm hoping that's the one with the mask drawing point to point, lightning effects etc. If so I'm gonna go get it, it shouldn't be too different in price. Hopefully. :o
