A note on how we do things.

Sometimes there are misunderstandings with newer people to the RP scene with how we operate. Hopefully this will fix any potential confusion.

Unlike other MMOs and their RP servers, such as LoTRO or WoW, we are out of character by default even in local chat. Despite the login message for our world, there are actually and absolutely no roleplay rules or enforcement by Jagex. Whereas you could be straight up banned in LoTRO for trolling in local chat, no one would receive such a punishment here (unless they violated the normal game rules, such as using offensive language). Likewise, there is no ultimate enforcement to be in character or anything else.

Because of this, you could say we've more or less given up on trying to have a seamless and cohesive scene that's as neat as seeing someone and knowing they're in character. We would likely have no problem with this but we can't enforce it ourselves because we don't have decisive ability. A variety of things prevents this from working. People choosing to have our worlds as their home world when they don't RP (why? who knows) and no repercussion for disrupting RP are the largest culprits. Even if the lot of us tried to always be in character, those that don't RP but use our worlds outnumber us and it'd be a headache for us anyways.

And there's just nothing we can do about that until (and if) something is done to make the roleplay worlds more intuitive for our ways.


So. That said. Our play is relegated to sessions rather than being continuous. You go in character for a session, then you go out of a character at a suitable bookmark spot.


But this is not to say that's a rule. Not at all. You will not be frowned upon if you choose to remain in character most of the time.

If I or another come across you in the game, greet you, and you tell us you're in character, we'll respect that. Hell, we might even go in character with you. But, I'm just telling you now, don't hold your breath hoping this will be the norm. We don't.

Tips


- Roleplay anywhere! When the game isn't needed, many of us enjoy using Discord or Skype to RP for its ease of use. It can be more conducive to lengthier writing that happen between small groups or only two people, or perhaps D&D-esque groups. Some even use Google Documents for a seamless transition of a roleplay into a legitimate collaborative story!

- We have a wiki for World 42. There's even more to read on there and you can create your own character pages, profile, clan pages, and more. Just Google " RSRP Wiki " (or read the first post, you knob.)

- Keep it simple. Wary of committing a faux pas, against official and/or expected rules? Everything can be summarized into fun and lore-abiding , and in that order. If everyone with you is having fun, and it makes sense within the game, you're good as gold. ^_^ The Sicarius |

Mentors

Would you like someone to assist you in game with roleplay? Ask around.

I've decided to do away with the Mentors list. As Twillow said on page 28+29, hosting a mentor's list is tricky. Ensuring the right people go on it is a very hard thing to do, and while arbitrarily deciding by myself who should and should not go on it is against the rules, the alternative - hosting just anybody that asks - is not anywhere close to a good idea. It allows disruptive or otherwise offensive people to simply request addition and be guaranteed to get on, with only arguments erupting if they're declined. This is not, and will not be, a subtle targeted attack on any person's character, only a concern for the future. Having a mentor's list was a good idea some time ago, but it no longer is, with even the criteria for what determines a mentor and the possible requirements being easily debatable and inadmissible. Due to this, I've taken down the Mentors list, and will leave only this post in its wake.
