Elysium is a world unlike any other, where conviction governs the laws of science, and belief, the rule of man. It exists much like a dreamscape; an empyrean kingdom that offers untold opportunities for those willing to seek them out. Settlers of the realm call themselves Elysians, and have already taken to high-lying moorland for colonisation.

Elysian Fields may be little more than a hamlet now, but as far as colonies go, well...

...you can't do better than that.

‹<>› Places of Interest ‹<>›
Despite its relatively small size, Elysium has wildly differing climates. Only four of these regions are stable enough for exploration and colonisation: the Great Dessert Desert to the southwest; the Mhangura Mudflats to the northwest; Asphodel Valley to the northeast; and the Smoldering Wastes to the southeast.

Elysian Fields
Where the four regions' boundaries overlap lies the small colony of Elysian Fields. Dead centre of Elysium, it exists as a sort of keystone that maintains the balance between order and chaos. Although little more than a hamlet, Elysian Fields holds the current record of longest surviving settlement on Elysium. It boasts strong defenses that can endure even the greatest of the mana maelstroms.

Elysian Fields is the first place newcomers will arrive, as portals leading to the new world will always deposit them outside its gates. It's also where the only known exit portal can be found.

Great Dessert Desert
Contrary to its name, the Great Dessert Desert doesn't offer sweet treats for explorers to consume... usually. During a routine expedition a certain gnome believed the pearly white sand beneath his feet was in fact sugar. Lo and behold, his belief was so strong that it became so. Thus the Great Dessert Desert was born from the imagination of a single gnome child.

Gnome explorers have made much progress charting the desert. Rumours persist that beneath the great sugar dunes exist buried treasure and the ancient tombs of those who made this realm. Whether or not they are true remain to be seen. Certainly, the ever hostile monkeys believe them, as they are frequently sighted excavating throughout the region, posing a threat to would be treasure hunters and explorers alike.

Mhangura Mudflats
The Mhangura Mudflats are just that: channels of coppery mud that stretch endlessly. It contains the largest deposits of sacred clay on Elysium, and as such, is a hive of activity. The treacherous terrain makes the region a far greater challenge than the rest, and to assume otherwise may prove fatal.

Smoldering Wastes
On Elysium there is a vast expanse of grounds perpetually burning. Plumes of smoke rise like the tendrils of an angry goddess, lashing out against an invisible foe. Surprisingly, the Smoldering Wastes are perhaps the least dangerous region, for the smoke and fires are clean and gentle.

The Smoldering Wastes are thought to be a product of emotional distress. It's generally thought unwise to traverse them while upset for fear of provoking further alterations to the landscape.

Asphodel Valley
Asphodel Valley was once the site of a settlement on Elysium. That was before the entire region was swallowed by mist. It remains the most mysterious location in the new world, and plenty of adventurers have attempted to recover what was lost in the oppressive fog. Those that return do so with haunted expressions and tales of strange happenings...

Recent attempts to map the valley have been futile and potentially deadly. Travelers are discouraged from entering it unless sufficiently prepared.

Common items such as tools and furniture often disappear without a trace on Elysium, where structures are at the mercy of the ever-changing landscape.

The versatility of sacred clay allows it to serve as a building material and a means to replace several household objects, and so sacred clay has become an accepted currency. Thus, workers are paid in marble-sized units of sacred clay, making them easy to count and transport. The manufacture, distribution, and regulation of sacred clay marbles has become a burgeoning industry.

Several believe that the essences of those who perish in the new world come to inhabit the sacred clay, thus giving them a spiritual value along with a practical one, but this claim currently remains unsubstantiated.

‹<>› Population ‹<>›

The inhabitants of Elysian Fields number no greater than one hundred and consist of several humanoids with flexible character and varying intellect. Dwarves, humans, gnomes, and monkeys are the most numerous races on Elysium. Other races do exist, both native to the realm and otherwise, but these are usually few and far between. Few survive outside the colonies, and those that do are almost always aggressive and highly dangerous.

Dwarves
Dwarves are the most common race on Elysium. In fact, Elysian Field's rapid development is seen as a direct result of their rather industrious nature. Plenty of them hold prestigious offices within the colony and prefer the safety of its walls where they can properly govern it in the event of a crisis.

Humans
Elysian Fields owes its existence to human adaptability. The extreme—and often chaotic—conditions of the new world was a challenge that only humankind seemed capable of enduring. They rival the dwarves' numbers in terms of population and can be found almost anywhere on Elysium.

Gnomes
Prior to the arrival of gnomes, Elysium's geography was virtually unknown. Their innate curiosity led to the discovery and charting of the world's four distinct regions. Gnomes are commonly seen beyond the colony's borders, often researching the nature of the new world despite the environmental dangers it possesses.

Monkeys
How and when monkeys arrived on Elysium is a hotly debated topic. Regardless of the truth, everyone agrees that they are an utter nuisance. Simian warbands plague the outer regions of the new world as one might expect of raiders or bandits. It doesn't help that monkeys are oddly unaffected by Elysium's properties and appear to actively pursue them for reasons unknown.

‹<>› Properties ‹<>›

Elysium is a small world, according to the gnomes, and is only as large as the Kharidian Desert on Gielinor. Traditional methods of determining its exact measurements are often met with failure. The landscape beyond Elysian Fields is variable and prone to changing on an irregular basis.

Some properties have been established thanks to the gnome effort, such as the timeless nature of the world. Elysians never grow hungry, thirsty, or age while on Elysium. Theories abound as to why this occurs. The perpetual twilight and lack of a day/night cycle are both attributed to the environment's timelessness.

One of the stranger properties of Elysium is its subjectivity. "Reality is only as real as you make it," suggests reports received from outside the boundaries of Elysian Fields. The farther you travel into the outer regions the greater you can warp the world. This is already seen to occur naturally with catastrophic results.

Strange phenomena are commonplace on Elysium. They range between harmless sensory alterations to violent events.

Color Leeching/Oversaturation
One of the lesser phenomena are the leeching/oversaturation of color in the surrounding environment. This occurs most often during the day and lasts no more than a couple hours. The worst you can expect is a lingering headache.

Emotional Flooding
Emotional floods shouldn't be underestimated. Waves of ethereal fluid can overwhelm an entire village in a matter of moments, stunning even the most stoic of warriors with pangs of hopelessness and grief, leaving them an emotional wreck. Fortunately, the aftereffects are temporary and many victims recover within a few minutes. Cases of prolonged emotional distress are dangerous and should be treated immediately.

Mana Maestrom
Rare are those who can withstand a mana maelstrom and not suffer some horrific disfigurement. Death is considered a mercy in such cases where the victim has suffered drastic changes to their body. Thankfully, these magical storms are rare and detectable by heightened magic prowess or a complete lack thereof. Taking shelter can protect you from the worst a maelstrom has to offer, and even a little prayer goes a long way in preventing complete alchemicisation.

Sentient Reflections
There has been an increased number of sightings where a person's or persons' mirrored reflection(s) appeared sentient. These are thought to be exaggerations or a trick of the eye, and are to be ignored. Nonetheless, settlers are encouraged to report any such sightings to the local authority.

Intelligent Flora/Fauna
The ambient magic on Elysium is thought to be behind the rise of intelligent flora/fauna. They are usually safe to handle and communication is encouraged. However, both intelligent and non-intelligent monkeys are outlawed within the walls of Elysian Fields, and will be removed immediately.
