I didn't read the full thing but I get a strong feeling you're trying to teach us RPers actual sword fighting techniques, abit too complicated / unnececary IMO but I quite like the extend of which you go to to describe a certain manouvre.

You sir get a 10/10 for effort and a golden star.

I have another thread with the actual sword techniques. This would be the tactics.

Ever notice how it's oddly enough easier to hit somebody in 1V1, than to get a hit in when the enemy is being ganged up on? You attack, and they somehow manage to get out of the way by dodging someone else's attack, pretty much evading you through pure "lucky" timing. They don't even need to know you are there.

I honestly can't count how many times I've seen this. It's important to pay special attention to the timing, and detail exactly when you strike. Same for when you're the outnumbered one. It's understandably annoying to have several opponents just throw in moves without specifying when they attacked.

And one more thing. Not that it's as prevalent as the above problems, but on occasion I've encountered players that, regardless of timing, just walk around behind you in the middle of your action as if they were the only ones capable of moving and everybody else is frozen in time. They don't even mention an attempt to get where they are heading, they just go there and attack, not seeming to understand that it is not a free action.

It's an anomaly. In practice, irl, my friends and I can pile anyone without messing each other up in fencing, airsoft, etc. The moment all the fighting becomes text, blunders appear that don't exist otherwise.

And yes, them not specifying when one move happens in relation to the other, is hectic fun if the other side isn't an ass about it - lack of detail is always the fault of the person making the action. A friend of mine, back in '11, was fighting on the Ardougne bridge, and had a whole row of people attacking him from it. He quickly figured out that most of their attacks would likely hit their own friends, and due to poor group coordination, stopped almost the entirety of their attacks by stepping back and raising his shield. OOC confusion, people walking in each other's way, and other blunders did the rest.

I haven't seen that as much either, but it's a rewarding mistake on their end if you can explain to them how everyone can still move, and why in most cases they just walked into an attack. (Of course, them acknowledging that they majorly messed up, has happened... a very low amount of times.)

This is a really good thread! :D , you've obviously put a lot of detail and thought into this, I'll be sure to use all this info if my character is ever attacked by a group, thanks ;)
