The Woman stepped out onto the castle terrace and spoke to whoever had assembled. There was rumor spreading around of the Woman, her ship in the harbor was hardly unusual though the amount she unloaded was. Where did she come from? When would she go? Had she been married long time ago?
"Citizens. I stand before you, Heir to the Duchy of Lumbridge. Our people are a proud people and our history is one that must stand apart. We have survived a great deal have we not? Our fathers fought against the Zamorakian Intrusion into our world and by Saradomins grace and strength we overcame. We have survived being swallowed up into empire after empire. You have been betrayed by imperialists abroad and within. Our blood and treasure stains the plane. No longer.

Many years ago my ancestor liberated this city but he did so at great cost. All was wasted as he returned this city to its oppressors out of fear of doing what was necessary to defend it. No more. I am the heir to his mistake and I shall right it.

Lumbridge stands today a beacon to the world. Bring your friendship and your trade and we shall grow stronger together. Lumbridge calls home those that seek prosperity. Lumbridge stands upon Gielinor with goodwill towards all who will engage us in good faith. My people, I stand before you today to declare the Duchy of Lumbridge sovereign and free."

There might have been applause but there was mostly confusion. They still didn't know who she was or where she came from but the gossip would spread. Her message may have resonated with some, perhaps too radical or perhaps a message Lumbridge needed. Time would tell if the people would accept her message but one thing was clear. The times were a changin.

OOC Introduction

Welcome to Lumbridge. Thanks for taking the time to look at the thread. I just want to use this space to share my intentions with creating this POC, and that's really what it is. I've been in the RSRP community for about 5 or 6 years and I remember a time when the server was more active but the community while divided engaged with each other and I'm hoping Lumbridge can provide that.

We're setting up to try and provide a small location that can focus on itself. I'm not going to orchestrate plotlines or seek to expand. The Duchy is the size that the Duchy will be. It's big enough and we'll never use it all anyway. Lumbridge holds a special place in my rp heart. It's where I created my first RP character and I've felt drawn back to it ever since.

I'm busy. I'm in school and stuff's going on. I want Lumbridge to be a place where you feel like you can come and rp no matter what 'faction' of the community you feel you belong to. New or old there's a spot for you here. I'm going to try to host 1 rp a week. I think that's reasonable but sometimes I just won't be able to. I hope though that anyone in this rp will feel free to host their own or to invite others to 'freelance' with them.

That's what's going to help our rp group and really our rp community. My goal isn't to create great plots, it's not to develop your characters, and it's not to tell a story. I'm hoping that this thread, my weekly events, and this POC can be the catalyst for members to go out and do those things for themselves. Lumbridge is the stage and I'm only setting it. I invite anyone in the community to come take part be it an actor, a writer, a director, and in rp it's usually all three.

As an individual you're welcome here and if you lead or are part of a small rp group, one without a city or a kingdom but that can exist anywhere I hope you'll consider Lumbridge as a place that your group is invited to rp in and welcome in our endeavors. Application:

Our application is straightforward. You don't have to put one in to rp with us. Your character is welcome regardless but an application helps us to better know your character and I'll throw you in on the census. The census and the application help to let others know about your character even if they might not make it to the same events as you. So if their character needs a blacksmith or a priest or whatever your job is they can reach out to you and get that rp going. Most of this info won't end up on the Census but having things like background and physical description help so we don't all need to share how tall and what color our eyes are at every rp session, though we might anyway.

Duchy Boundaries


The Duchy of Lumbridge represents the historical boundaries of Lumbridge. She claims dominion over the River Lum from its mouth to where it shares a shore with Varrock. She also lays claim to the Swamp, Lumbridge Crater, and all farmland who's Farmhouse are within the Duchy.

This post serves as a property census of sorts but mostly points out those areas where a character might want to involve themselves. Needed or desired character positions

Church: Solus Spero
The Church is the site of many services weddings, funerals, and coronations are often held here. The Priests primary responsibilities are to Saradomins worshippers though he also administers the graveyard and catacombs.

The Crater:
The Lumbridge Crater, to the dismay of the Duchess, (Many people did die there after
all…. Jagex) is often the cite of party and celebration. While these events are not sponsored by the Duchess they bring with them travelers and economic growth and for that reason are allowed and appreciated by many.

The Swamp Temple: Abyssal Knight Commander + Knights Available
The Abyssal Knights protect an ancient temple in the swamps of Lumbridge. The site is of great concern to the Duchess as she sees it as a threat to the people of the Duchy. The Knight Commander serves as an advisor to the Queen and acts free of her control though his authority within the Duchy does not extend from the temple. The Abyssal Knights have brought with them an influx of Guthixian influence as some family members have moved into the City.

Water Altar: Court Mage Needed
The Water Altar is the source of Gielinor's water runes. The Court Mage is an advisor to the Duchess on magical matters but is primarily responsible for ensuring that Gielinor's Runecrafters have safe access to the altar. They also maintain the Castle supply of runes and primarily does this by producing Water Runes and trading.

POI Continued

The Docks:
More significant than is shown in-game the Lumbridge Docks have been extended out along the mouth of the River Lum into the bay. These docks facilitate trade to Sarim, Karamja, Menaphos, and the rest of the known world.

Goblin Country:
East of the Castle and over the River lies a few homes that have been taken over by a small tribe of Goblins. For now, they do not pose a threat to the Duchy and the Duchess has decided to show them grace. The offer at hand is that they will be allowed to live in peace across the river so long as they do not cross over or harm travelers. Should they break this offer the Duchess will give the order eradicate them. With H.A.M. afoot, perhaps that peace is temporary.

H.A.M.: Leader needed.
While the Duchess is unaware of H.A.M.'s exact location or current status she is aware of it historically. They have not appeared in recent years and so they are not on her radar. Should they return it is unlikely she would be immediately aware and unclear if she would be a friend or a foe. She has allowed the Goblins to remain but like H.A.M. is a strong Saradominist.

Thieves Guild: Guildmaster needed
It's unclear if the Duchess is aware of the guild's existence but it is likely that she is not and the Guild prefers it that way.

Memorial Fountain:
Located in the center of Town this fountain honors those who died in the Zamorakian Invasion and serves as a reminder of how many more might have died if Saradomin had not intervened and saved his people.

Combat Academy:
The Combat Academy draws adventurers from across Gielinor. They come here to train and to show their skills. From the ranks of the Academy come many of the knights of the Duchy.

The Castle

The Castle is the center of political life in the Duchy. Duchess Concendo hosts foreign dignitaries, nobility, and the public here. The courtyard is a major part of social life in the Duchy where in the evenings the community will gather to gossip and when attend the Duchess open court. The Castle is secure but accessible with the only bank in the Duchy located here. The Castle Features are listed below.

The front of the courtyard has a portcullis that can be lowered when necessary though the large gaps in the rear of the courtyard make this less useful than one might think.

The Evynid Guard: Guard Captain Available
Named for the late Duke Evynid Rovin of the Evynid Provinces. The Guard is responsible for the defense of the castle and of the Duchy. They are the duchy's police, military, and security force but their focus is largely on peacekeeping. The Duchy does not maintain an offensive force and has no interest in expanding. Guards exist only to maintain prosperity. They are augmented by the Knights of the realm also appointed by the Duchess. A uniform is not available at this time and will be developed with the OOC input of the Guard Captain.

Court Mage: Available
In addition to his responsibilities on the Points of Interest Page, the Court Mage will spend much of his time in the castle addressing Magical issues as they occur. While the guard does not answer to him he can command them when appointed to do so by the Duchess.

Basement:
Accessed from the Kitchen this serves as a non-secure storage place for the castle as well as the barracks for the Guard.
