I hope the RP Community is doing okay amidst the pandemic.
I thought I'd check in here and there.

As far as I know, the health us folks is still all good and everyone's dealing with the pandemic in their own ways (depending on which country they live in) to keep the Covid from spreading. The RP Community part is less healthy and I even fear that in 2021 this section of the forums sees so little activity it might be obsolete and in need of removal. In-Game RP is not dead, but I do wonder sometimes how low we need to go to officially call it that.

It's a shame too, Runescape as a setting has always been engaging to me on a level that other MMO worlds just haven't managed to capture. Admittedly I felt kind of disappointed about Guthix's death and the trivialization of the gods in RS3, but I still love the story despite my grievances with the direction it took.

Wish the RP community would see some love again. I really would rather that this forum didn't die.

Yeah, I really feel and share some of your sentiments there, Gabrissa. I must say that though I never liked the concept of the World Guardian, but the Death of Guthix did enable our past community to perform excellent forms of community wide roleplay. The Bird and the Beast, Battle for Lumbridge and Tuska were very welcomed by an incredibly broad audience in the roleplay community. But that's just a small bit of how much indirect 'love' we recieved from the MMORPG RuneScape.

The RPG part of it all (commonly W42) was often known as a player owned paralel universe where the roleplayers and their characters were all part of this ever changing, medieval fantasy world. Going through my own personal experiences I do remember genuine excitement for my roleplay community on W42 when RuneScape came with another update. I can remember that excitement, but I can't remember when or if I even felt it this year or the year before.

I remember so many good things that I would concider 'love for the roleplay community' in some sense. Our Wizards' Tower got the shiniest graphics in the game, we had an insane knowledge increase in our Eastern Region and eventually got to visit, our own Mahjarrat, Vampyre, Saradomist, Eastern, Goblin, Royal, Magical etc etc. characters actually weaved themselves into the world of RuneScape and through the combination of the creativity of the roleplayers and the quests, (world) events, graphical overhauls, spellbooks, lorebooks etc etc of Runescape there was an actual healthy roleplay community for people to enjoy.

And man are you right, I felt very engaged to RuneScape as an MMO during alarge part of my life. Clan Citadels, Branches of Darkmeyer, Stopping Tuska with the Wizards' Tower, entering the 6th age with the gods clashing, the kingdoms slowly getting their graphics updated, more information about magic, metal, racial things and you name it, all thanks to what RuneScape offered to our creativity.

Ironically, an update that is just a new set of jewelry is simply not cutting it for our community. I admit, we are greedy when it comes to what we expect of RuneScape to supply us with in our roleplay needs. Runescape in 2020 is not the RuneScape of 2014. Eventually the ways of how RuneScape itself and W42 saw a good way to update the game simply grew too far appart and here we are now.

Lastely, for the record; To blame my personal recieved decline on what I saw as 'good' updates for RuneScape as a game in relation to the state of W42 as a roleplaying community is far too simple. This is all merely a rant and part of my own personal experiences put on display as a piece of insight for others simpky because I enjoy sounding smart and knowledgable about the things I love(d?).

Well said! I’d add that, as a community, the focus became “how many people can we get online to play pretend with us” versus “what kind of stories can we build for our own characters”.

When roleplay occasionally springs up, there’s a larger crowd spectating than participating on some occasions and then there’s the nostalgic players like myself who try to bring back older themes and clans for the sake of that enjoyment left unfulfilled.

I’d really like to get back to the state we were in where you didn’t have to actively participate in anything to login at random and have a good time— but that just takes more communication and creativity. I think it’s still fun that way occasionally, though.

That sounds about right, everyone in here is correct on how they feel. The community can be better and more if we had more world-wide scaled updates like the world events (or mini world events) we use to have. But this also comes down to the cooperation in them as well as the level on maturity and understanding some within this community gives.

When I run my rp group, the way I run it as well, it is an attempt to keep interest and creativity alive. But it is hard. Because eventually, I will hit a brick wall that I won't be able to get through. There is so much unanswered lore that can be used, but it also argues the amount we can use and how far can we use it in.

I am sure other people who are actively running their groups are feeling thee same, their running out of ideas as Dungeon/Game masters, or interest is dropping.

I care about the Role-play community, I do. Which is why I try my best to invite people outside of the community and try to keep them interested. Some enjoy it, some have shown to adapt and have fun, other weren't interested or became to busy.

I know preference is a thing, I won't ever shame a person for not wanting to role-play the way I try introducing it, not would I have them be shamed on. I would try to encourage it, because change is usually needed. But I try my best to show that the community is still thriving, on it's last leg if you want.

This community has lost it's touch in a lot of ways, but so has the game, and so has a lot of people who were pushed away by life. The community is on it's last leg, and I plan on helping it stand on it as long as I can.

Yeah I have no clue what you're trying to ask, nor on what made you assume the statement of my group being a sub community, as well as my mixing of senses?

Sorry but, I think there's more to this question than what you're trying to get here. Feels like you're mixing my words and trying to push me out of the conversation, if that's the case I'm sorry on sharing my experience in world 42 before the declined of role-play, and what i experienced, witnessed and gathered from others. You've even shared your opinion on the decline and lack of interest, so I am not sure what your question (and statement) is referring to?

If not please do help me in understanding what I am missing. I am online if you want to have a deep conversation about it, to avoid a large amount of post in here, feels like we might have off topic talk in here.

Just wanted to make it (more) public that I have started to have talks with roleplayers involved in the OSRS scene to update certain pieces of information currently on this thread. Hopefully I can update the parts related to OSRS as the scene has some momentum again and contribute to its growth this way. They are going to be minor edits, but that's something I say now and can always change in the future. OSRS RP is still taking shape and the last I want to do is overdo things.

If I haven't talked to you personally yet or you feel like you're being left out for example, comment here or contact me through 3rd person media like Discord if you want to help out update this thread to be more in line with current events.

_______________
Edit: Nothing regarding OSRS roleplay will be updated on this thread for now. The rapid development of a starting community on OSRS has already declined to a level akin to the activity on W42, which is near no activity.
