Race Bio:

Name of your Race: Daghrra

Description of Race’s Appearance:

Black liquid with no uniform shape but can change at will within the limits of the amount of liquid they are composed of. The liquid is not transparent. Within the liquid is a fragment of a red crystal.

Common powers/attributes:

The Daghrra are basically animated crude oil. They are capable of draining the oil from living things and adding it to their own bodies as well as create thralls out of oil from their body.

They create these thralls from the oil they are composed of thus limiting the number and size of thralls by the amount of oil they are composed of.

The ability to drain oil is not immediate and requires them to penetrate the surcease of whatever they are trying to extract oil from.

The thralls they create are completely mindless and can only receive new orders when the Daghrra they are enthralled to is nearby. They will continue to repeat an order endlessly until it is destroyed or given a new one.

The crystal that the Daghrra's mind is bound to consumes proximately three gallons of oil every twenty four hours meaning they must constantly replenish their supply.

If they run out of oil the crystal goes dormant and they cannot awaken without the aid of their brethren.

In order to preserve their oil supplies they can hibernate and the crystal will stop consuming oil until they wake up. They must set how long they will hibernate before they go into it or they will not awake. They can be woken up by other members of their race prematurely or if no wake time was set.

As long as the crystal exists they can be reformed, and as long as they have oil to manipulate they will continue to live, thus making them practically immortal, however if their crystal is smashed the magical energy that keeps them alive dissipates and they can no longer be resurrected.

powers continued:

They can communicate over a short distance (basically line of sight) with others of their kind telepathically. In order to communicate over longer distances they must perform a ritual which immobilizes them and exposes their crystal leaving them open to attack.

There are two ways to kill a thrall: completely obliterate their body (Hint: Kill it with fire!), or incapacitate the Daghrra it is enthralled to. (either force it into hibernation by destroying the oil it is composed of via the method of killing thralls mentioned above, or shattering it's crystal)

Where does your race come from?:

The Daghrra were created almost entirely by accident. An ancient magical gem had found its way to the top of an underground volcano which erupted and shattered the gem, the fragments then fell into a vein of crude oil which had been exposed by the explosion. The gem fragments reacted with the oil and they became infused with each others properties. The origin of the gem is not so easily explained, for its creation and purpose were lost to history, most likely it was created by some of the first humans to arrive as a sort of alter, and the power of the Guthixian worship imbued it with its life bestowing properties, it then might have been *ast into the sea as the temple was destroyed by a group of humans who decided to follow a different god, or it might have just formed naturally under the ocean and gained it's magic from rune stones that had fallen into the sea. Whatever the origin of the crystal, it is largely unimportant. All that matters is that it existed, and it started a great deal of trouble.

Reaction to Kin:

The Daghrra are a very communal race. They are capable of communing telepathically through their fragments of the crystal they were created from. Because of this, they never developed a spoken language. However though their minds are linked they still posses individual identities and are capable of speaking to other beings by replicating the necessary structures for speech.

Reaction to Other Races:

Because their bodies are almost completely composed of oil they consider any creature that contains water in their body to be of a lesser intelligence and therefore treat any creature wish a mixture of water and oils in their body as cattle for them to feed upon.

Short History:

After the dust settled from the underwater explosion they began to form blobs of oil and move around in their new surroundings. It was not long before they encountered their first life form that contained oil and water. It was a flat fish on the bottom of the ocean. The Daghrra immediately started contemplating how to treat what to them was an “abomination of nature” and eventually decided to “purify” it by removing the oil from it's body, killing it. As they encountered more underwater life they slowly began to believe that the entire world was “infested” by these creatures and put it upon themselves to cleanse the world of them.

They grew in size and understanding of their world soon becoming became a threat to many underwater civilizations. This resulted in a large scale underwater war. This continued for almost a decade until a race of mysterious wandering warriors, who had been migrating from their home seas, were successful in containing the Daghrra and sealing them away by trapping them within a large stone sphere which they magically sealed. The Daghrra were trapped for many years, and their tomb watched over by the warriors, However not all things are meant to last...

history continued:

As time wore on the warrior race who, just as mysteriously as their arrival, slowly vanished leaving their vast empire, and the tomb of the Daghrra, unattended. History turned to legend, and legend turned to myth, until even the myth was no longer remembered. Then, hundreds of years later, a crack formed in the tomb, and the Daghrra slowly woke from their slumber.
