The others stood at the edge of the cliff of the decaying world. He had been gone too long. Delays were expected, of course, with a mission so lengthy. However, this was even longer than usual. Even for Pyro. Something had happened. The weapon was still in use. They sensed it. But, something was off. As though the balance had been shifted in some way. As if the weapon didn’t want to be in use. This had never happened before. Never. They needed to investigate. Astro and Cosmo raised their blade to the World Gate, which had not been used in an eternity. The dial ground to life. The yellow glow of the portal illuminated the faces of the unlikely group. They nodded to each other.
And they stepped through.
