The Campaign Resumes

The Duke of Lassaria, Arthan, returns to the encampment at Castle Olnhart, where he resumed command of the host as the second week of the campaign wanes, rousing his soldiers to make preparations to leave by noon. In the last few days, the small army had grown to around six-hundred conscripted from among the subjects of the Duchy, to accompany his retinue of Burthorpean Principal Guard.

The Duke's host slowly assembles into a march, departing along the north road upon reports of a party of collectors loyal to the Kinshra scouring the villages for tributes in bread, livestock and gold, when news of the massacre at the village within his demesne reached his camp at the Castle Collinburgh by a courier in the night. Promptly, the Duke sends scouts ahead of his army to find and track the bandits responsible for the attack, and then issues a command through his courier for the steward of his government to be dispatched to the village where he is tasked to oversee the investigation of the massacre and recovery of the town and its folk.

-Letters would be sent out to certain people of note within Asgarnia-

To Duke Arthan

The Z U council, acting in it's capacity as the defenders of all those of the zamorakian faith demands you immediately cease and desist all military operations against our ally the Kinshra. You militia is directed to immediately march to Taverly where it will remain until this matter has been resolved. We do however recognize that some action is required to end these raids and discipline any Kinshra officers responsible for these acts. To this end the council has dispatched an army of 6,000 men under arms, accompanied by a Z U airship to take control of the situation. Know that our army will not initiate hostilities against you, but it will retaliate should it or those it is sworn to protect come under attack. Additionally Lord Pyro wishes you to know that 2,000 of these troops are being deployed to Fort Valance. If they arrive before you have left the region they will control both the main North and East roads, effectively cutting off your supply lines from Burthope.

Yours severely
The Z U Council

To her self proclaimed Majesty Queen Rosaline

I am writing to inform you that in light of your failure to prevent the recent attacks on my people I am sending a peace keeping force into the region of Lassaria to bring an end to this mindless violence. Rest assured my troops will only operate in that region and will not move against anyone that does not present a direct threat to the Zamorakians of Asgarnia.

In addition to this I also wish for you to understand my position as the true and rightful King of Asgarnia. The truth is that I have in many ways ascended beyond such concerns but I must admit I still look upon the time of my reign with fondness. This fondness has led to my adopted position as Asgarnia's true protector.

Any threat to the kingdom will ultimately be dealt with by me if and when it's current supposed ruler fails in their duties. That said I wish to note that your current rule shows promise and I look forward to seeing what you will be able to achieve once this current crisis has abated.

The Message from 'Lord Pyro' and the 'Z.U. Council'

The messenger who brought the Z.U. Council's message into Duke Arthan's camp was received with the dignity of a peaceful, diplomatic mission, where before His Grace the messenger was asked to present the contents of the letter firstly and then brought before the junior commanders of the campaign in entirety.

After some discussion, the Duke Arthan accepted the guidance of his junior commanders and ordered preparations to leave for Silverhill down the western road, then on to Fort Valence, immediately. In a matter of hours the army was assembled back into mobilization form, and began their march towards the promise of battle against invaders of their country. While Duke Arthan and his commanders calculated it would take some time for such a numerous enemy to organize and mobilize, it would take roughly two days to reach Fort Valence from their own position.

Additonally, the Duke Arthan sent an urgent message to his steward, recalling him and his mission back to Silverhill, so that he may prepare the defenses of the city and inform the other lords of the impending invasion of the Blackmarch. The steward's message made certain they may have time of their own to make ready for war and to request from the allies and vassals of the Duke to send willing and able-bodied volunteers to rally at Silverhill.

'Her Royal Majesty the Queen' Rosaline

I note with pleasant surprise your return and ascension to the higher echelons of nobility. No doubt yours shall be a rule to watch with keen interest. No doubt your late mentor would be proud to see your rise and, without a doubt, I personally look forward to see if you will fall as he did. In his honor I have enclosed a token of memorabilia I am led to believe you may have some interest in. Should your memory fail to place where these delicate florals may be found, I am certain that someone in the castle can provide you with further details.

Good luck.

Behind the sheet of paper with spidery writing lies a pressed fiery orange and yellow flower. It smells of iron and blood, the edges of the petals sharp as knives. The letter contained no signature, nor any further clue about its origin.
My existence is debatable, but likely.

Lord Pyro,

There is something to be said for your candor, my lord, but you are quite mistaken. Call yourself whatever you like. It won't erase the past. You see, I'm familiar with the history of Asgarnia. Your first rule in particular tells me everything I need to know about you. Taken by the trappings of power, only to flee with your tail between your legs the moment things fell apart. Courageous Lord Pyro / Who met no defeat / But as it came on the morrow / The only foes beat were his feet! Ring a bell, my lord?

Cowardly, overzealous, and proud to a fault. That is the sort of man you are, beneath all the bluster; a king weighed and found wanting. Can I let you in on a little secret? Claiming to be a protector of kingdoms doesn't make it true. You earn that right through blood, sweat, and tears. No, Lord Pyro, I will go so far as to deny your right to call yourself that. You must first earn it.

Come. Shed that crutch you call a legacy and face me in single combat. There is no truer contest of skill and worth. Should I emerge victorious, you must withdraw your forces from these lands and relinquish all ties to the kingdom and crown. Defeat me and Asgarnia is yours, no strings attached.

Don't keep me waiting.

A mysterious note was sent to Falador Castle with the writing in blood.

Sarimia News

The Duke has made a call for any devout Saradomist mages within the South to make their way to his residence within Port Sarim. The reason was not explicitly stated, only that they would be doing their Gods work.

Along with this the Duke has also been in the works of organizing his bannermen and those of his vassals into a single military force. During these troubling times the Duke feels it best to get the full strength of the south in order.

A request was sent to the Count of Rimmington to send over able bodied men to aid in the process of reconstructing Asgarnias fleet.
It's just business.

Draynor

A small band of pink clad warriors have posted up at the crossroads north of Draynor. Most non humans passing through would be subject to harassment.

One day, one of their number, a woman who made herself known as 'Speaker Hellen', passed out flyers spreading their doctrine and ideology. 'Monsters are bad and should be attacked on sight.'
Leopard slugs.

The Razing of Fort Valence

At dawn, upwards of forty soldiers accompanying three wagons and carrying the banners of the House of Sterlant arrived at the gates of the Fort Valence, occupied by a minimal garrison of the forces of Lord Pyro. The fierce assault by the Sterlant bannermen commenced soon after, and despite a persevering resistance by the Zamorakian garrison, the small host broke the doors open in splinters with the assistance of a hand-held ram. The Sterlant vanguard pours into the courtyard and are confronted by one of the enemy's automated, armored drones. The collosus slew a number of the vanguard, yet the battered golem could not withstand the forces pouring in for long. With defeat imminent, the drone erupts suddenly in one, final explosion, killing several more of the Duke's soldiers.

When the dust settled and victory was claimed by the Sterlant force, the captain in charge orders the rest of the company to carry out the Duke's commands. In the first hour since their capture of Fort Valence, a small group was sent inside to ensure the installations were cleared of the enemy, as well as any innocents that might have been held inside, while preparations were made to raze the fort. Then, when it was determined that the fort was empty of valuable goods and inhabitants, the company started to set fires inside of the fort in an organized manner, to ensure that the burn would soon engulf the fortification and render it unusable. Once the company was satisfied that the Duke's wishes were met, and the fate of Fort Valence was settled, the company began their evacuation of the area, and headed back towards Silverhill to link up with their liege's host.

At Silverhill, with the aid of his steward and the nobles, the Duke of Lassaria's host was bolstered with hundreds more, nearly double what it was before, at around 1,200 and was joined by a regiment of White Knights on horseback.
