Probably. Though I don't know Gale and Steve's reasons, ours boiled down to the fact we planned to vote in our new admins. Because of that, we needed a system where we could have possibly three new admins every three months but not need a new thread.

A similar reason. When the time comes, the torch will be passed to the next generation and then so forth.
