The crystal itself is orange in color, and has a slight translucency to it, though when “activated” as I have taken to calling it, the crystal becomes hot to the touch and glows brighter than a lantern.

Amazingly, Solarite can grow almost anywhere there is sunlight and a warm temperature, similar to a tropical plant. Then it can be harvested for individual crystals, which will regrow when the “stem” is exposed to more sunlight. It is no wonder to me that the Solari had enough to arm an entire military.

The crystal is activated via the sun’s rays, and grows in power the longer it is exposed to sunlight. Once activated, the crystal’s true potential expands exponentially. It can be smithed into armor or weaponry, provided the correct insulation is used when worn. (I have found that thick cloth allows one to handle the crystal, while still being warmed by the general aura it provides).Solarite also provides a sort of long-lasting fire rune to those magic users out there, as it outputs a very similar charge until it is deactivated when the solar energy inside runs out.

In addition to being burning hot, solarite has the additional benefit of warding off the undead or beings of a dark or unholy nature due to the solar energy which flows through it.

Solarite weapons are versatile in nature, and all follow a similar pattern of being fire/heat-based with the solarite channeling its power into them. I cannot cover every possible design using solarite, but I will explain my first blueprint for it. It is a simple steel blade with a solarite crystal set into the crossguard, when the crystal activates it causes the steel to glow red-hot, but keep its form and strength. It does not burst into flames, but it does burn what it cuts through. Much is possible, it is clear this is only the beginning.
