Life Expectancy: The oldest Kiya was said to have lived to be 70 years old

Where did they come from?: The Kiya is a creature known in few but widespread myths and legends across Gielenor. They are believed to be created on this plane directly by a god-like creature known as “The Wakyn.” Whether or not this is true can neither be proven nor unproven due to lack of evidence on either part.

When did they arrive on Gielinor?: It's unknown how long the Kiya have existed in the realm of Gielenor.

Physical Description: While they may very in size or color, all Kiya have large bird wings which enable them to fly. As a part to that ability, their bodies are usually light and lean, and they never stand more than about 5'6”. Looking at their faces you couldn't tell one from an ordinary human, they usually have eastern features such as narrow eyes and soft features.
The most defining characteristic of the Kiya is how they mature. Hatching from an egg, originally they take the form of a bird. As it ages, that bird will quickly grow to be the size of a toddler. By that point the Kiya is about half a year old and it will then start to develop more humanistic features. It will grow arms and turn into a quadruped, its tail will shrink and fall away, and its body will morph into that of a human. At that point it will walk upright. The last major change is that the beak will “molt” off when their face is almost developed. From bird to human is a process that only takes about two years.

Current State of Population: It's impossible to say. Kiya have always been so few and far between that most have either not heard of them, or don't believe that they exist at all. Recent events may have changed that however.

Racial Abilities: Besides flight, The Kiya have the ability to create enchanted instruments called Fir'Lyrus. These instruments are made when a Kiya takes an emotion (or state of mind) from itself and crafts it into a physical object. Playing that Fir'Lyrus will then pass along the feeling that it was made from to any who hear it's notes; much like a siren's song. The downside is that once a Fir'Lyrus is made, The Kiya can no longer feel the emotion that they used to make their instrument. For instance, a lute that may cause others to fall in love while it plays would be made by a Kiya who can no longer feel affection or passion in it's heart. How they create these peculiar objects is unknown even to the Kiyan that make them. Why they make these instruments is usually said that when a Kiyan first comes across a strong emotion that it doesn't like, it will try to escape it by forging a Fir'lyrus, being able to play that emotion is the Kiyan's way to control it.
Every Kiya is said to make a Fir'Lyrus in their lifetime; and once they do, they become obsessed with it; unable to part ways and loving it as their child because it was made from a part of their very being. If a Fir'Lyrus is destroyed then the Kiyan can make another, but a Kiyan with more than one has never been heard of. The Fir'Lyrus will crumble should the Kiyan be killed. If it should die peacefully, it is said that their spirit possesses the instrument and allows it to exist without them. Meaning the Kiya create their own afterlife.

Weaknesses: They have no particular weakness apart from their small size make it difficult to build a sturdy body. Kiya are not known to be fighters and when they are it's usually a ranger because hand-to-hand confrontation is almost a death sentence.

Brief History: The stories vary somewhat from each region; but the Kiya are said to be created when a bird-like spirit called the “Wakyn” Happens upon a child who is dying. The Wakyn is said to then whisk the spirit of the child away and reincarnate them as a bird inside of an egg. The age of the Wakyn is unknown and it's questioned if it actually exists or if it's a just fairy-tale. Either way the Wakyn is the closest thing the Kiya have to a god. That is, if they even find out about him/her themselves.

Brief Summary: The Kiya are a mysterious race of bird that at a young age will grow to appear as a human with wings. They are few and far between and thought by most not to exist. Every Kiya is said to create an enchanted instrument called a Fir'Lyrus which allows them to pass on their own emotions to other people at a great personal cost to the Kiyan. They are said to come from an unrecognized deity known as the “Wakyn”, which creates each one from the spirit of a child who has passed away.

Other Tidbits: The Kiya can mate with other races, but the child has not been known to inherit any of the Kiyan's traits. It is as though they are human when they are fully grown. No Kiyan has ever been said to be born by natural means.

The Kiya often know nothing about their own race, as it is relatively unkown to the uneducated populace and there are usually no others to learn from. They simply go about their lives thinking that they're some kind of freak.

The Fir'lyrus Have a few drawbacks. The first is that the Kiyan that made it can no longer feel the emotion that was used to make the Fir'Lyrus, even when it is played. One is that if you are aware of the Fir'lyrus's influence, then you can more easily resist it's effects. Making it difficult for a Kiyan to use his instrument to get out of an immediate problem.

Generally, the higher notes played by a Fir'Lyrus are said to affect the subconscious, while the deeper notes are more powerful, but easier to resist if their influence is realized in time.

All Kiya are born with the ability to play their Fir'Lyrus.

Grace/Racial Powers: As a Kiyan, Quill posseses the ability to fly. He also has the ability to craft an enchanted instrument called a Fir'Lyrus. Which can enable him to manipulate the emotions and feelings of others. He also has gained the Grace to read minds. As he's still young this more than often gets him into trouble because he can't always tell a thought from a spoken word. The more prominent the thought, the louder he hears it. Currently he is also unable to force himself into someone's head, but if he concentrates on them, he can hear deeper and deeper thoughts. It also causes him to think aloud more often because to him, there is little difference between thought and speech.

Talents/Skills: Quill was born with a natural ability to play his Fir'Lyrus

Weapons/Specialized Tools: Somehow he's gotten his hands on a rather fine shieldbow. Also on his side at all times is his magic Lyre “Serenity” which is a Fir'Lyrus.

Weaknesses: Because of the nature of his Fir'Lyrus, Quill has lost his ability to feel secure or trusting. This has made him into something of a skitzo, and a little psychotic because he believes that ultimately, everyone is out to get him. He also can't read. Never had access to Dr. Seuss so his childhood was pretty traumatic.

Appearance: Obviously as a Kiyan he's got two pertty white wings on his back. He stands a little over 5 feet with thin features making up his pale body. Unfortunately the poor guy has been cursed with the infamous “Baby-face Syndrome” and will remains eternally cute and innocent in appearance. His eyes are somewhat narrow(asian) and light blue in color. Across the left side of his face, just under his cheek bone and over his ear, are two lash marks where it would appear that he has been struck by a whip or blade. His hair is a reflective silver and it drapes slightly over his left eye.

Brief History: Like all Kiya, Quill started off as an egg. An egg that was discovered by a certain little girl who took him back to her remote farm home. He started off as her pet but, to everyone's surprise, developed into a full blown human with those freakish wings on his back. Despite his appearance, he still acted like a pet to the girl, and followed her around everywhere she went. The few times he was brought into town he was met with more contempt rather than interest. As such an odd creature he was thought to perhaps be a bad omen or at least unlucky. When he started answering people's thoughts they started to get a little freaked out and he found that his friend, the little girl, was completely rejected because of her association with him. The two refused to leave the farm from that time on. That didn't stop the anyone from wanting him gone however, and they soon came for the bird-child that could read minds. Surprisingly, Quill did not respond with fear towards the mob, but rather anger towards the farmers. He swore at them, spat, hissed, and growled. Furious that they would do this thing to him. That his own “family” Might have played a part in it also. He escaped, and the little girl and her parents were left unharmed. From then the 13-year-old was said to be stalking the farmers maliciously. When the girl turned up dead, possibly dropped from a high height, the call went out for his head; and he fled. After that he was never seen without his Lyre, if he was seen at all. Any rumors being spread about him would say that since then he's been luring travelers with his magic lyre into the woods where he then kills them. If they're true or not hasn't been proven.

How was it created?:Serenity is a Lyre-type Fir'Lyrus created by Quill by unknown means.

What can it do?: When Serenity is played it emits a powerful magic that works very similarly to a siren's song. It fills the hearers with the feeling of security and peace of mind. Making them feel safe and calm. At full effectiveness you might call it something of a trance, as the person effected will be lulled into a state of near-bliss. The Lyre's weakness is that if one is confronting the wielder, it is nearly impossible for it's song to take a strong effect. As the target is totally aware and conscientiously opposing it's effects with the opposite emotions.
