Please do not edit this thread with your own bias. When you were given this thread you had agreed to simply host it without changes being made. Something like this is directly targeting player groups to put them in a bad light.

Edit: The issue has been addressed.

My bad. That was just a tiny bit accusatory, wasn't it? I amended it. It's not going back to the original though - it is a confusing thing for prospectives to read a rule and then see many people disregard it. Considering how exceedingly rare it is to get anyone new in this community, the least we could help with that is clearing away any potential confusion. And of course this thread is for prospectives, and not us. We already know the unspoken in's and out's, but a few more things could be spoken about! It's all fact nonetheless, there is no bias. A large number of scenes break lore.

On a similar note, I forgot about the last post on the first page. I'd like to get that filled out. Does anyone have any thoughts on what to put there, even write up your own version?

For balancing, certainly mention that if your character is comparable to the Adventurer in many feats or abilities, or rivalling the accomplishments of some of the most prominent characters in lore before they've even roleplayed, the character is probably overpowered or a Mary Sue.

Also recommend they visit the Mary-Sue test on the RSR**iki, to make sure they avoid common character cliches and pitfalls.

Can't think of what else to say right now, which is weird because I know that somewhere, on a Word doc, I have several short paragraphs written on this topic. Because unfinished guides.

Character Development and Balancing
Character development is possibly the core aspect of every (serious) roleplay you'll do - the decisions your character makes, those it goes along with and the rewards, or lack of, are always determined by your character's personality, conscience and contribute to their perpetual development. It is important to keep this in mind, and every time something contradicts your character's preference or morality, it will have an effect on the character which leads to growth. Everyone has a potential that is reached through this turmoil.(#StrengthThroughChaos #Potential)

On balancing, it is important to remember that your character should have strengths and weaknesses though it is not necessary for them to have major penalties that hamper them, unless you're making them more powerful than the average Joe. It is common for characters to have more 'moderate' strengths than weaknesses, and it is not something to get hung up on unless you are deliberately trying to make the character stand out, or you're unfamiliar with the normalities of the Type/Race/Species you are playing (examples being any non-Human whose lore you're unfamiliar with, or if you're mimicking the Rock).

Development is constant, and almost every scenario shapes the path of your character and their hitherto development will shape their reaction - their reaction will have an impact on their future development. Balance is a creation issue and is largely done by simply being informed as to the formalities of the type of character you are playing.
Remember: If someone points out an 'issue' with your character's development or balance, they're not necessarily right but it is definitely advisable that you hear them out and assess the criticism, and see if there's any merit in it by self-critique or asking a friend.

In lore, none of our characters exist .

I'd argue that only some of our character's don't exist.

In instances where you're roleplaying little Timmy, along with your friends who play Mumma Timmy and Pappa Timmy, and their employment is rather simple, I'd not call that lorebending.

Although if you're playing a King, I'd say that the act of them being King is lorebending, but their existance isn't.
