The Economy and Landscape of Aethyra

Aethyra is a Duchy located just North of Vorago, in central Northern Asgarnia. The Renderra of Aethyra survived by first establishing a brutal warrior reputation, then remained isolated, detached from the recent Kinshra and White Knight Conflicts.

There are two populations of Aethyra. The natives, with their warrior culture and steadfast Guthixian beliefs, and the new, immigrant population seeking shelter from the War. Ancient, Formidable, and traditionalist describe Aethyra well.

That said, there are five counties to Aethyra.

Argylle, led by the Half-Elven Argyll Family
Lessia, maintained by Dwarves,
Giant's Hill, maintained by Earl Leonardo Amari
Keystone, lazily maintained by the Realtá family
And of course, the Soulwood, the seat of the Renderra family in Asgarnia.

Due to its rocky terrain, much of the land is worthless for farming. Many of the mines, barring Lessia, have long dried up from countless wars. Aethyra’s land is used mostly for cattle ranching, care of sheep (which none dare eat), and other ranch animals. Some food, specifically squashes, maize, and sparing amounts of subsistence farming comprise most flora, aside from the towering oak and yew trees.

Most money from Aethyra today comes from pelts, divine energy products, and the cattle ranches. Considered useless by outsiders, and priceless to natives, many are right to question if the Aethyrites who remain are truly devout, or devoid of intelligence.

Regardless, this sleeping giant is as threatening as Vorago to the South, with the native Aethyric Bowmen and Order of the Raven making their nest here.

Trade is common in Aethyra, due to the terrain making surplusses of food unlikely.

The most common exports are as follows:
- Wool
- Leather and Cattle products
- Horses
- Divine Energy products
- Slayer Products
- Products brewed from Hops
- Animal pelts
- Potions
- Archery Supplies

The most common imports are as follows:
- Grains
- Runes
- Iron, to supplement the draining mines.

Overall, Aethyrites tend to import as much as they export during a season of peacetime and fair crop growth.

During wartime, Iron cost heavily increases, but the Warrior population will ravage the enemy countryside for riches and supplies, invigorating the economy. Likewise, selling of bows and arrows also brings the productive power of Aethyra to strength.

During times of poor crop growth, Cattle exports halt, to conserve food as more is bought from outside. In prolonged famine, the cows are sold as meat locally to preserve vital supplies of animal feed. These are the most taxing times to the Aethyric economy, especially if coupled with peacetime.

The Order of the Iron Star

An Order of Knighthood bound in service to Aethyra, and the Renderra who own it. With roots claimed to be from both Tyrion Renderra the first, and the Void Knights of the Third Age, needless to say the Order is old, and proud.

They observe five tenets, and hold the Silver Renderra Pentacle as their symbol of chivalry and sigil.

1 - Service to Guthix, to protect the Balance of the World
2 - Service to the Crown, to protect the Balance of Asgarnia
3 - Service to the Renderra, to protect the Balance of Aethyra
4 - Service to the Weak, to protect them so they may grow strong
5 - Respect for oneself, others, and the world at large.

The Order of the Iron Star typically only Knights Guthixians. That said, they comprise the Knighthood and Archers of Aethyra, and exemplify the warrior culture.

The Aethyric Bowmen

A part of the Order of the Iron Star, the Bowmen are the standard Soldiers of Aethyra. Raised to use longbows from a young age, the Bowmen are muscled, able to use the mighty Asgarnian Warbow. These muscles, however, are not allowed to go to waste. The additional use of spears, maces, axes, and halberds make the bowmen the elites they claim to be.

Clad mostly in low-quality steel, the Bowmen are armoured at vital regions and the head with a Barbute helmet, which while protective is also allowing vision. They are hybrids of Long-distance and Close-Combat, and truly deserve their title as some of Asgarnia's fiercest infantry.

The Banshee Riders

A more public force than the rest of the Order of the Raven, the Banshee Riders of Ekaterina Renderra are highly skilled Magi who operate as light cavalry. Their members ride on horseback, casting spells with specialized, longer wands that double as the riding cane required for riding side-saddle, which many of the members do.

Given their foundations by Ekaterina to be psychological, magical combatants, all of the banshees are women. Most of them use their wands alongside sabers, though some carry bladed staves as lances. It doesn't stop at the cavalry, either. The long, flowing robes worn by Banshees are supplemented with a layer of shade silk, as are the mount's armour decoarated with it.

Ekaterina herself dons robes stylized after Death, in a dark, navy blue with a metallic skull mask.

Each of the nine Banshees know or use a different sort of magic, from the elements, to nature magic, to summoning, to prayers. All of them spread terror when they ride, perpetuating the ideas of Druid curses.

Order of the Raven

The Order of the Raven is the Secretive hand of the Renderra Family, in theory. In truth, they're the union of four main bodies of people, all giving their elite forces to protect the Soulwood Tree, the Anima Mundi, and save cultures from extinction.

The Order can be broken up into five main groups.

The Shadows, Lightweight Fighters taking the mantle of Driez Renderra. High damage, stealth oriented fighters in light armour. Longbow snipers, Distance Magi, and up-close and personal assassins.

The Primals, Mid-weight fighters taking up the mantle of Natalie Renderra. Made to be versatile, the Primals are neither as strong as the Silverclad defensively, or able to be as stealthy as the Shadow-Walkers. They are, however, adaptable to most situations.

The Silverclads, Heavyweight fighters with heavy armour, made to resist physical and magical attack with ease. Without shields, their raw damage is hard to match, making them effective one man armies or defensive forces.

The Animaweavers, Diviners and Herblore specialists, Animaweavers serve as the medical staff of Ravens. Often they act as support, but sometimes they take on another class as they enter the field.

The Forgemasters, expert Armaments makers, the Forgemasters are the ones responsible for the equipment a Raven carries.

In addition, there are three ranks.

Apprentice - A Raven who is in training. May or may not be aware of their training having started.

Raven - A Raven who has proven themselves worthy of the title. Can act as an independent agent of the order as needed.

Master - Head of a specific school or class of Raven, they choose when a Raven may take an apprentice, and who. This is the highest rank of the Order. All Masters tend to be older and wiser, stepping back from the fieldwork.

Shadow-Walker Schools:

Scryer:

Designed to be long-range, lightly armoured snipers, these fighters wear jackets padded with enchanted silk, to allow full mobility with a staff or bow, or any other magical weapon they use. Their fighting style involves "scrying" to locate a distant target to try and hit more easily.

Nightwatcher

Armed with a bow and a longsword, paired with a left-handed dagger. Their unique fighting style involves ranged at a distance, and up close, using that ranger muscle to grappel and stab.

Primal Schools

Alcides:

Pairing an open-face helmet with metal vitals armour, Alcides fighters wear durable padded jackets stuffed with enchanted silk. They are made to fit infantry, and use the fearsome primal scream if nessacery.

Banshee:

Cavalry with vital protection, the wearing of silk from shades gives them and their mounts ghastly appearances for psychological warfare. Their hit and run cavalry tactics include the use of spears, shields, and Ekaterina Renderra's riding cane wand.

Silverclad Schools:

Neo-Promethean:

Founded by Prathos Ehredrache, the school's focus is on heavy combat in heavy dragonhide and metal, with the Promethean helmet worn. Use of the Aegus shield is common in this school, meant to spread fear as only the Worshippers could.

Zarinic:

Silverclad himself. Heavy armour made to not halt magic, paired with robes, and more armour beneath. While extremely heavy, this protective wear paired with a Battlemage's pollaxe is made to be a one man army.

Traditional Aethyric Religion

Traditionally, Aethyra practiced a unique sect of Druidism known as Aethyric Druidism. The teachings of which focus on Light, the World Soul, and Balance, to best ensure the longevity of life on Gielinor. Directly opposing these ideas are "The Darkness," comprised of Necromancers, a specific group of Chthonian Demons, and those who simply give into their dark impulses for power, rather than the betterment of the world.

The Druids thus believe practicing to use their "Inner Light" is a must, to fight off the Darkness in a long war that neither can truly win, that must continue for the sake of the Balance. And will happen, again and again, in many different forms.

Aethyric Druidism has wedding ceremonies bound in blood, as bloodlines are important to the families who practice it.

Ultimately, the following five elements are believed to carry the listed attributes.

Fire - Passion, Empathy and Summer. Blood, Rage, and Zealotry. Red.
Water - Clarity, Wisdom, and Winter. Ice, Apathy, and Machiavellian thoughts. Blue.
Earth - Perseverance, Truth, and Spring. Shadow, Stubborness, Jagged personality. Brown.
Wind - Adaptability, Freedom, and Autumn. Smoke, Cowardice, and Impressionable. Gold

Any of the Four on their own can lead to dangerous results for the one promoting it. The key to overcoming these personalities is to learn their flaws and try to ground them. To do this, Aethyric Druids teach of the Fifth Element, the Aethyr.

Aethyr - Light, Life, Energy, and Time. Cyan.

While an overwhelming majority of Aethyrites practice Aethyric Druidism, many Guthixians and non-practicing members of other faiths have traditionally called it home.

While not official residents, bands of Goblins often pass through between towns, thus making Bandosianism somewhat common, though the days since The Bird and the Beast have led to the residents being more up and arms about Goblin Warbands traipsing through their territory.

The Order of the Iron Star and The Order of the Raven call Aethyra home, as organizations embracing Aethyric Druidism.

Sixth Age Aethyric Religion

Much of the new, Sixth Age faith has been formed from the research of Ekaterina Renderra into the Memorial to Guthix, in North Kandarin.

New Thoughts and Ideas:

• Clergy are meant to give wisdom. Direct involvement is not their way, because it wasn’t Guthix’s. We may advise, but things must be allowed to run their course

• Every time we draw a sword, it must be for a purpose. For the damage it causes is harmful to the world. We must do our part to repair the damage war brings.

• “Some must die so all can live, Sacrifices must be made for the greater good.” It’s… A hard truth, but we must take it and accept it.

• Blind faith will get us little. Passion for our cause must be balanced with thought as to specifics. Questioning our faith is normal, and leads to the free thought Guthix desired from us.

• Our duty is not to Worship Guthix as a God. Our duty is to act to defend the balance, the harmony, the freedom he gave us. The Thought of the Druid, and the Passion of the Warrior are both a necessity to do our tasks.

• Guthix swore to protect us, with all he had to spare. Some will question our purpose, but that is natural. Through learning of ourselves and others, we will learn our place in this world.

• Magic is a gift we were given by Guthix, as our old stories told. However, Guthix wishes us to go beyond the base use of it for combat, for raw elemental fighting. We have a duty to use magic, thus, to make lives easier. As Druids, we have a purpose to expand our learning of spells to help all.

• Guthix was troubled by loss. He sacrificed his own freedom for us. Some had to pay a sacrifice, so others could live. And Guthix foresaw he would have to pay the ultimate price.

• The Guardians were put in place not just to manage the world while Guthix slept, but to protect the world from the untold horrors of what lies beyond.

• Sometimes you must lose a friend to truly save them.

• The Five elements are different than our teachings claimed.

Fire - The Spark of Life, warmth, hope, and love.
Earth - Nurturing, shifting, growing, and cycling.
Air - Freedom, Progression, and the breath life needs to continue.
Water - Clarity, change, and nourishing

Aethyr, or light, is not one. The final, time, is a part of all and none. A glue to bind, constantly shifting while also in place. That said, it cannot be understated that Aethyr as an element has served us well, and done what it can as only Light could to fight the Darkness. We should not shun Aethyr as alien, but embrace it to continue our duty to the world, to protect the World Soul from destruction.

• Freedom is most important to us. Sacrificing Freedom, our autonomy, is the hardest thing we can do to ourselves. Taking it away from another is unforgivable. This is the gift Guthix left for us. Not Runestones, not his energy we now divine, but the freedom to live in this world how we please.

Guthix made this sacrifice, time and time again, giving his own freedom so we may keep ours. His tears, the sign he wished to stay with us but could not, were no gift at all. They were his final lament, a reminder of what he had lost, to give us what we should keep.
