TROUBLE IN PARADISE

Eight people have died, dozens more are wounded and many more are still unaccounted for after a vicious surprise attack that took place on Ivanday.

The lumber colony known officially as Lucy's Logging Camp No. 1 but referred to by most who work there as "Jack's Headache" was set upon in the early morning by assailants described only as "beasts in human form" by the colony's workers. One worker, who asked to be called "Nails McNiell" by the Gielinor Times, had this to say:

"We was coming out of the work houses that morning, and it was all totally normal, y'know? Except the impenetrable fog in the surrounding jungle, y'know the trees and all, they was covered in this mist like nothin' I've ever seen. And there was this howling like men imitating beasts, y'know big howls and roars like I ain't never heard from no creature before. But other than that everythin' was like normal."

Mr McNiell went on after we plied him with alcohol pressed him for more information, and described his version of the attack:

"So we looked around at the jungle that surrounded the colony and we was like 'what's all this then?' And then they started streaming out of the trees, bloody loads of 'em. Karamjans galore, but none like I ain't even seen before. Their eyes was big and their skin didn't look none healthy, like they'd been underground for too long. They was covered in symbols I didn't recognise, not like any of the gods I know. And they was shoutin' and screamin' and chantin' in a language I ain't ever heard before. Well, we tried to fight them off with our axes and our saws but a fat lot o' good that done against these fellows. They mainly wanted hostages, I think; they carried a load of men off into the jungle, and we ain't heard from 'em since.

Nails McNiell says he no longer wishes to stay at the colony, and is leaving on the first boat out, along with many of the survivors.

As yet no operation to search for the missing colony workers is underway. Although the colony had links to businesses and corporations in Asgarnia, the kingdom's civil war likely means no resources can be spared for what could be a costly and lengthy rescue mission through the Karamjan jungle.

Very little is known about the mysterious Karamjans who attacked the lumber camp. Beyond the description given by Nails McNiell we have very little suggestion as to their motives or goals. But we do, perhaps, have a hint as to their leader. An administrator for the colony, Lou Robsin, would not answer any direct questions when we spoke to him. He had plenty to say however, some of which is recorded here:

"Big man. Big bad man with a big bald head and a tongue like a snake. Forked like a fork or snaked like a snake, which is it? He has ways of making men talk, but why would he want you to talk? He watches. Watches from the trees. Laughs as they collect. He wants us here, he likes his job. Big bald man with a big round face."

Sadly, he would say little else when pressed. Since speaking to us, he has gone missing from the camp. Whether this is the end of the colony or whether it will pull through is in the lap of the gods, now.

What is more certain is that we've not yet seen the end of this mysterious group of Karamjans. What are their goals? What has become of the men they abducted? Who is their mysterious leader? We can only hope that time will tell.

^ That there is the Karamja article, in case you couldn't tell. Tame's usual column can be found on page 12 over two posts (I think post 1 and post 6? Either way, they're on there) as I don't think we ever used it and I don't have a whole lot of time to do another one. Sorry it's a bit late - I've been very busy this past week. One man's trash is another's treasure, and one man's cash buys another's pleasure.

A letter would be delivered to Caradoc Godwin’s house, addressed to him. There’d be the Gielinor Times printed stamp that Esmeralda had been bragging about to staff members not only a few days ago. It’d be the letters GT in a square box closely surrounding the letters.

Dear Caradoc Godwin,

It’s come to my attention that your performance as of late within The Gielinor Times has been virtually non-existant. After employing you two weeks ago, you have not submitted a single task put to you. I understand that we have had some teething problems after the move; however that is not an excuse.

Here at The Gielinor Times, we aim to provide only the best and most professional industry standard newspaper services in Gielinor. As the leading company in this market, our standards are set extremely high.

As we move into a new age of corporation, I need to be able to rely on all of my staff members to complete tasks given to them on time. Failure to do so is an extreme offence of which I will never take lightly – If you don’t submit articles for editing, we have no paper to give to paying customers.

Take this as your first warning – Caradoc. Continue to fail to produce articles, and we may need to go down stricter routs to either ensure you produce them, or reassess your placement within The Gielinor Times.

Hoping you are well,

Esmeralda Salmassi.
CEO and Editor – The Gielinor Times.
