TROUBLE IN PARADISE
Eight people have died, dozens more are wounded and many more are still unaccounted for after a vicious surprise attack that took place on Ivanday.
The lumber colony known officially as Lucy's Logging Camp No. 1 but referred to by most who work there as "Jack's Headache" was set upon in the early morning by assailants described only as "beasts in human form" by the colony's workers. One worker, who asked to be called "Nails McNiell" by the Gielinor Times, had this to say:
"We was coming out of the work houses that morning, and it was all totally normal, y'know? Except the impenetrable fog in the surrounding jungle, y'know the trees and all, they was covered in this mist like nothin' I've ever seen. And there was this howling like men imitating beasts, y'know big howls and roars like I ain't never heard from no creature before. But other than that everythin' was like normal."
Mr McNiell went on after we
plied him with alcohol
pressed him for more information, and described his version of the attack:
"So we looked around at the jungle that surrounded the colony and we was like 'what's all this then?' And then they started streaming out of the trees, bloody loads of 'em. Karamjans galore, but none like I ain't even seen before. Their eyes was big and their skin didn't look none healthy, like they'd been underground for too long. They was covered in symbols I didn't recognise, not like any of the gods I know. And they was shoutin' and screamin' and chantin' in a language I ain't ever heard before. Well, we tried to fight them off with our axes and our saws but a fat lot o' good that done against these fellows. They mainly wanted hostages, I think; they carried a load of men off into the jungle, and we ain't heard from 'em since.
Nails McNiell says he no longer wishes to stay at the colony, and is leaving on the first boat out, along with many of the survivors.
Cont. One man's trash is another's treasure, and one man's cash buys another's pleasure.
So I'll rob from the cradle, and I'll rob from the grave; it's just human traffic, and I'm just a slave.
