There had been a notice posted on the Sarim boards several weeks ago. “The White Knights have opened the caves to the public. Explorers and Adventurers, inquire at Outpost Basilisk.” Nothing much had come from it.

When the main entrance had been sealed due to Seraphite invasion of Sarim, it was thought that the caves would fade away from memory, barely a footnote in history. Then a massive sinkhole appeared in the northwestern Rimmington farmlands. It wasn’t until reports of missing civilians and animals popped up that the caves were brought back into the spotlight.

These days, notices regarding the Basilisk Caves, renamed the Depths of Rimmington, are directing volunteers to a growing campsite outside Rimmington proper.

Dawn Lakewood, a mage that had been assisting the White Knights during their recent investigations of the Cavern, is gathering resources to clear out the creatures within and secure the ores waiting to be collected.

Greetings! This thread is meant to record and provide currently known information regarding the Depths of Rimmington (commonly known as the Grotworm Caves) for those interested in participation or just having a quick read.

This plot is planned to be Exploration-Combat, laying the groundwork for future use and a potentially recurring event for those wishing to try their hand at an exploration-combat scenario.

As this is my first (majorly) solo plot, many things are subject to change. When I host sessions I use a randomized turn based combat system with an occasional player’s choice in who goes next.

Next Event

On Hiatus/Request. Meet by the Lady of the Lake in south-east Taverly.

Groups of 3-6 volunteers; map out the various tunnels in the second cavern. Worms can be left for later, however work is being done to create the beginnings of a mining operation so their extermination would be appreciated.

Cavern Information

First Sector

A section of the caves characterized by clusters of flora growing near streams of water, and the occasional sunbeam filtering through small gaps between roots. Juvenile worms are prevalent in this area, often gathering near water pools or eating out tunnels in search of metals for sustenance.

The remnants of their paths are often small, barely large enough for somebody to crawl through. The path to the next sector is blocked off by a wall of earth where previous passages have caved in and are no longer accessible.

Is it possible to clear the way eventually, however it was deemed better in the long run to keep the connection blocked.

The Sinkhole

A large hole that appeared in the north-western part of the Rimmington farmlands. It goes very deep, and several wood platforms and rope netting have been attached to the rock face. In the future, it is planned to widen the hole to allow for a ramp or set up a pulley system to transport supplies when the caves have been deemed safe enough to start a mining operation.

At the bottom of the cave in, rubble lines a rushing flow of water that cuts through the western side of the hole. To the southeast, a sizable tunnel wide enough for two people to comfortably walk side by side exists. This is the current entrance being utilized for excursions.

Second Region

This region is believed to be in the western part of Rimmington. Heading north brings you to a wall that extends from both sides of the cavern. There appears to be a few tunnels that were once accessible but have since been caved in. Light blue veins of copper sprawl across this wall. Within the nooks and crannies of the rock face soft green glowing flora grows.

The main path takes you along the eastern wall. On the route you will cross over a large river of water gushing out from the rock face, carving its way through a handful of earthen bridges (some of which have collapsed) and spilling over into the abyss in the center.

Hanging to the right after the initial river leads you to numerous passages that connect to places currently unknown. The majority are presumed to end in caverns where pools have formed.

Third Cavern

A barren sector of the caves. The majority of the caves here are nothing more than dirt, stone, and bodies of water.

At the end of the main path a strange artificial room is found, with a large ceiling supported by four pillars arranged in a square pattern. One side of the hall is open to the chasm in the center of the Rimmington Depths, allowing the winged beasts to fly in and out as they please.
