I was wondering how long it would be before we saw something like this - driverless car pulled over by the police :P

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-61080666

The whole idea of driverless vehicles is worrying, what happens if there's an accident?
Is the owner resonsible? Or the car manufacturer?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

If the car is designed to drive on its own you can't really hold the owner responsible.

I could easily see the manufacturer just blame it on "human error" like they do in this article, but I would never accept that. If you have to manually turn on the light what other crucial features could they just not integrate, would you have to manually activate your turn signal too? That's absurd. The car is controlling itself. So it should control and be everything until you stop it or it reaches its destination.

both the owner and car manufacturer are responsible. Someone has to get blamed.

This is an interesting read, owners might not be held responsible:

My car isn't one of those super duper driver assist cars but it has an auto setting I can turn on for turning the headlights on and off, my husband's car even switches between full beam and dipped. Perhaps the self driving car still needs a human to switch on the auto headlights setting.

edit to add: I totally agree with Thunder Jinx. A self driving car not being fully automatic for something as basic as headlights is silly.
