I for one do not like the idea of driverless cars. What would stop a smart hacker from weaponizing one? The same goes for hackers from hostile countries. Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

Yeah that's a scary thought :(
Im sure there are measures in place to prevent that, but hackers are a determined bunch.

Rooh, how many other things have been hit? A case in point was when a group of hackers shut down an oil pipe line here in the US. I do not trust the self driving cars. Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

We have had many of the driverless car features for quite a few years now albeit to a much lesser technological degree.
Some of the features on my car that I don't often use....
Lane deviation warning, front proximity driving warning, car in front moving from stop position warning, proximity warning front & rear, front & rear cameras with zone markings, cruise control with proximity shut off, speed limit warnings etc. etc.

No matter how sophisticated technology gets, it still lacks some of the things a human driver has... common sense being the big one.

Take Satnav for example - if you follow the directions precisely you can sometimes find yourself taking a much longer route or finding a dead end.

If I'm going somewhere I've never been before I'll look at the route on a map first so I know which satnav instructions to ignore. It tells you to turn around when you deviate from what it thinks is correct, then makes adjustments for your "override".

I read an article where someone dropped off their vehicle for an oil change, and person working on their car had some kind of accident that resulted in a fatality. The owner was still held liable for it!

I think with driverless vehicles, that the same would still apply. They are selling a very dangerous product and they need to be very confident in their technology before putting it on the streets where it could kill people.

I just read that and the headline does indeed make you think that the owner is being held responsible... if you read on to the end of the article, it's a ploy to get around state insurance laws that prevent a company suing one of their employees.

It looks like they've found a way to get compensation:

"...the strategy is merely a legal detour to ensure Hawkins' family is compensated for the unfathomable loss of the family man and that the Jeep owner will be exempted from paying money in the civil case, as he is backed by the dealership's insurance."
