No way. That's not fair. Fuck. Christmas presents were probably already bought and then the room, the ruler that will never have another height measurement, the shoes that will never be dirty, the crafts that will never get done.
It would be like mourning both the child and how the parent envisioned the future. Just shattered. Someone once said there isn't a word for a parent who loses a child (like a widow or orphan), because there just will never be a word that could encapsulate that much grief. So sorry to hear and you have my sympathies.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known
