The great cultural anthropologist Marshall Sahlins passed away last Monday, at the age of 90.
He was perhaps best known for his seminal 1972 work '
Stone Age Economics
', which completely changed the way that people thought about so-called 'primitive' societies, recognising in them the original 'affluent society'.
Never one to suffer fools gladly, he was also a political activist and cultural theorist with a truly brilliant mind. The field of anthropology is much poorer for his passing.
~~~~ Just another victim of the ambient morality ~~~~
