However I really feel bad for Tokyo on this one. They got a raw deal.

Whether or not a host city makes a profit or loss from the Olympics is basically a coin toss (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_the_Olympic_Games). But now that fans are no longer allowed to spectate the Olympics due to COVID...goodbye tourism profits making somewhat of a dent in the billions spent in order to prepare. You can guarantee that Japan's economy will suffer a huge loss.
