Just finished David Weber's Out of the Dark. Great as the first time I read it during its original release and now I'm reading the sequel Into The Light. The aliens are basically humanoid dogs with floppy ears and are 5 ft tall. The author deliberately avoided a confrontation between one of the main character's two dogs and aliens that visited to find out if those characters were involved in a battle in the book. Would have been quite an interesting thing to have dog aliens meet dogs. Apparently there was some drama with the Baen's Bar forum which unfortunately involved some Baen authors I like. I just hope the drama doesn't affect the books these authors have coming out in the future.

Great news. David just posted this on facebook:

" To my loyal readers...I am back to working full time...after family Covid-19, eye surgery, and the latest Quanon ridiculousness, where several crazies said I am a mouthpiece for their utterly ridiculous movement, I have gotten my second (or is it a third, fourth or even fifth, wind) I am going to give it my all until Master of the World (an extremely deep tale of the Event Group) and The Contest (a stand-alone horror western) followed by a new limited series, 'Arizona Rising,' are completed. Again, I want to thank everyone for their patience...Adventure is on the way! "

He did Witches before the WandaVision show made it cool and mainstream. Although the last book did come out when Chilling Adventures was still fresh.

I read a recent reddit thread about Into The Light. I don't mind the spoilers revealed in that thread, it actually made the book more interesting and worth my money. Not sure what the robot on the cover is I'm guessing it's to do with the rebuilding part of the book. The two frost files books I have are around 500 pages each so they'll last me a good bit. I won't read the Chess Team books till I own the entire series and that does include all the short stories too. I own about 2/5 of them for the Chess Team I think.

The purpose of the cover of the book has been revealed. This series has some of the most slowest FTL I've read in science fiction, only 6 light years speed. With ingenuity, I'm sure FTL will be vastly improved although I doubt it would get to the level of Peter F. Hamilton's FTL in the Commonwealth books which from what I remember was fast enough to travel to the Andromeda Galaxy in only 5 years. Tech in the book is surprisingly not too advanced and I'm on page 168.

I have been reading the The Sister's Grim series. It's about two girls who are the descendant of the Brother's Grim. The family is more or less fairy tale detective. Fun series.

Thanks everyone for the book suggestions!

I mostly just read Japanese light novels. Currently catching up on the series So I'm a Spider, So What?. Will start Volume 4 tomorrow.

Will read through all the translated volumes of Mushoku Tensei next, then I'll catch up on Goblin Slayer.
