I'm thinking of treating myself to a new monitor and wavering between several different options, so I'd love to hear what setups others are using and maybe some suggestions.
If you have any pictures, even better.

At the moment I have one 21" 1080p display (16x9) and find myself wanting more space when I have the game open with forums, websites etc. open in another window, roughly occupying half the screen each.

Options I've been considering:

1)
Keeping my 21" (for browsing etc) and adding maybe a 27" 1440p display for RS3 (16x9) in a dual monitor setup.

Possibly a bit cumbersome as my setup is in my living room with the monitor (at present) on a table next to the sofa. The monitor gets stashed away every night and having to store two away might be a bit awkward. Upside of this is it's very comfortable!

2)
A whopping great 34" 1440p ultrawide.
I'd love one but worried that I might be sat too close (I sit about a metre away). Also heavy to store away every day.

3)
A more modest 29" ultrawide. These only seem to come in HD (1080) flavour and can't help thinking I'd wish I'd gone for 1440p. It would be easy to accomodate though.

If anyone has experience with similar setups I'd love to hear what you thing, positives and negatives etc. Is RS suited to 1440 and/or ultrawide?

In an ideal world I'd be able to try them all out before buying but that isn't going to happen :P

Thanks in advance for any input.

Bigger is better in this case. I've got a pretty big screen on my pc, not sure how big.

But my eyesight is failing me in my old age so I need a big screen.

My monitor is 21"

If given a choice and budget wasn't an issue I would go for a nice 34inch screen.

I've always wanted 1 that big but I don't have the room for it. Could split RS on 1 half and other half Forums.... Ohhhhh the fun I could have with that set up lol.

The 1 I have now is Samsung 24 inch. Thats all I know about it.

rofl we both looking for a monitor!

okay for me I have to have built in speakers (saves 100+$) so I suggest mx279h

designo monitors seem amazing because they look great, have amazing surround sound and they're really good for your eyes so spending 15hrs on rs is like nothing

you can buy these monitors in 4k, curved screen, 25, 27, 32, 34 display w/e you wants
pretty nicely priced too, I'll actually most likely get one for rs specifically while I'll get a higher hz monitor for fps. oh and most amazing thing of all these monitors are silver! beautiful! I love these things!

Having a 35" monitor will mean you can have two standard screens side-by-side on one monitor. However, if you go this big, I recommend you go curved as this would be more comfortable. Sitting 1m away will be no issue with this size monitor. I sit approximately 0.7m away from my 35" screen.

As you say though, these monitors are heavy and I would not recommend moving them every day.

If you are interested in FPS or racing games, I recommend going for 140+ Hz on the refresh rate. Going this high negates any need for any G-sync or Freesync technologies which usually come at higher cost.

If you're really interested in the pixels, then sure, go for 1440p+, but I'm on 1080 right now and it's perfect enough for me. I'm sure connoisseurs out there will disagree however.

On a final point, my 35" curved screen is one of my most favourite purchases I've ever made. However, I have the space for it and do not need to store it away at the end of the day.

I guess you'll have to weigh up the pro's and con's, or perhaps see if there's another working solution for you other than what you have now.

I know it's early but, "
Happy New Monitor!

Thanks :) Plenty to think about there.

I was originally thinking about a 29" Ultrawide (1080) but can't help thinking if I got one, I'll end up wishing I'd gone for the bigger option. I don't buy new pc bits very often so want to make sure I make the right choice.

If you use your PC for productivity (namely photo/video editing, coding) as well as gaming, you will greatly benefit from more vertical pixels. RuneScape also runs fine at 2560x1440, although from experience I would recommend capping the framerate if looking at anything higher than 60hz. There isn't much sense in increasing power usage for a game which doesn't really benefit from a high refresh rate. Low on bank space? Click here .

Thanks Miles, I didn't know that about the RS3 framerate, that's certainly something to ponder.
Is RS capped to 60 fps?
I don't do much video or photo editing, though I do run some pro audio software.

The main reason for my considering an ultrawide is multitasking, having two windows open side by side - RS and a browser for example.

I'd go for option 2 or what Cole said.
I personally own 21 inch one for many, many years but one day I'll switch to bigger, curved monitor. It's better for everything if you got the means to do it.
